"Make this Mini" is happening. Schedule, Guide and General Rules.
Added 2024-09-26 15:15:48 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
Make This Mini is a reality! In my last post I proposed this new idea for the December release, in which the models would be based on ideas proposed by you. And we had a vote and, yes, we are going ahead with Make This Mini!
So in this post I will detail a little more how the process will continue from now on, the organization of the time and some important rules and guidelines for what is to come.
Schedule
For the rest of September, I have nothing else planned regarding Make This Mini, but you can use this same post to raise questions or ideas that are not clear, either about the rules or the format itself. We do will have our usual voting and preview posts for the next release.
Starting on October 1st, a post will be published where you can post your character ideas in the comments (more on how to post them below). This post will remain visible and open until October 14th, inclusive. The final rules for Make This Mini will be included in the text of that post. Posting a character idea will entail accepting these rules in their entirety.
From October 15th to October 25th (both inclusive) we will be voting on ideas. I am still working on how this voting will be done. I would like it to be done entirely within the Patreon platform, but the Patreon voting system is very limited, so depending on participation we may have to use a third-party application (such as Google Froms). In any case, my main interest is that it is not required to register anywhere to access the voting.
In the last days of October I will announce the result of the voting. I may contact the owners of the most voted ideas to finalize some details about the ideas.
During November I will be working on the most voted ideas. I will make the 5 most voted miniatures, but of course I am open to include more (in order of voting) only if work time allows.
Keep in mind that all these times will be carried out taking the GMT+2 time zone as a reference.
Rules for the ideas post.
In order to facilitate a clear, organized and respectful reading of the proposed ideas, the following rules will apply to the post designated to publish the proposed ideas.
Only proposals for ideas made in the established format and made as main comments will be accepted, never as a response to another comment.
Character ideas must be written in English. If necessary, please use an automatic translator. We do not need perfect grammar, but we do need everyone to be able to read it.
Comments posted as a response to the corresponding main comment will be allowed only.
Only ideas presented in the post designated for this purpose will be accepted.
All comments and responses must be respectful towards the idea and the author. There will be zero tolerance for excessive or disrespectful criticism.
Any comment that does not comply with the above will be removed.
Comments with ideas can be edited or deleted by the author until the closing date of the post (October 14, included).
In case of publishing more than one comment with a character idea, only the most recent one will be taken into account.
Rules for ideas submission.
Only one idea per person can be proposed. If you have submitted several by mistake, only the last one up loaded will be taken into account.
The miniature will be made in the usual StoneKing style. This affects the proportions, aesthetics and size of the figure. You can find many examples of this style on previous post from this Patreon.
It must be a miniature, not a figure or statue, that fits on a base between 25 and 35 mm
The miniature must be unique, only one main character with a maximum of one pet or mount.
The model may include a modeled base. This base must be between 25mm and 35mm.
The miniature will not contain sensitive themes or elements (eroticism, nudity or explicit crude violence, for example)
The miniature will not be a replica of, nor will it be based on, any concept licensed by third parties.
If applicable, I will not accept images or extensive descriptions of real people as reference. For example, if you want your character to look like a fellow gamer, you can describe some key features of their appearance (long hair tied in a bun, a nose ring, very thick eyebrows...) but don't submit a picture or a 3 pages-long description. Portraits are a quite complex and are not the goal of Make This Mini.
The miniature may be of any setting or theme, except those that break other rules.
If for any reason an idea is valid but it is not possible to carry it out, I will contact you to explain the reason and offer an alternative.
The miniature and final files will be subject to the same conditions of use as all StoneKing products, including Merchant Tier License and commercial use.
Format of the submitted Idea.
The following format is mandatory for the idea to be valid. Its purpose is to facilitate reading and organization for the subsequent vote.
Name: Name of the character. It can be a placeholder, but it will help to identify it in the votes.
Title: Title of the miniature. Like the name, it can be a placeholder, but it should be a brief concept of the idea for the character.
Description: A description of the model and its elements. Keep in mind the character's species, appearance, attitude, pose, items he carries and those that accompany him... Even if you are being concise, be as precise as you can and clarify what is most characteristic of the character for you. Text limit will be the one of a Patreon comment.
Base : If you want a modeled base, describe it in this separate space.
Examples of valid and invalid ideas.
Example A, valid
Name: Rob Robertson
Title: The Townsfolk Hero
Description: Rob is a gnome riding on hairy cow. As a gnome, Rob He has a large nose and pointed ears. He has no beard, but he does have a long goatee and a thin moustache. Rob is wearing a suit of armour made from household items, his torso is clearly a deformed frying pan and on his head he is wearing a colander. He is wearing boots that are extremely old and torn, leaving the toes exposed. As a weapon he has a straw rake. Rob is pulling on the reins of his cow mount, causing its pose to be slightly turned, but it is not having any effect on his mount, which remains static. Rob's gesture is one of anger or annoyance because of this. Rob es visiblemente demasiado pequeño para su montura. The cow mount has a very relaxed pose. Its fur is very long, covering its eyes and body, but not its legs completely. It has some grass remains in its mouth that it is chewing on. Its horns are comicaly large.
Base: Simple, flat, big enough for the cow to fit in.
Example B, valid
Name: The Traveler
Title: The spectral cosmonaut.
Description: The model represents a human figure fully dressed in a classic astronaut suit, but the glass of his spacesuit is broken and the head inside is a skull. The pose of the model should represent that It is floating. Its arms are extended forward, as if trying to reach something.
Base: The base should represent a floor with craters and metallic remains of a ship.
Example C, not valid
Name: Barry Poulter
Title: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Description: Barry is a human teenager, dressed in a normal student uniform plus a long robe open at the front. In his hand he carries a simple wand, just a stick. Barry He wears round glasses. His hair is short, but not too short, and combed so that his forehead can be seen, which is very important. Barry is pointing his wand forward, with a firm pose. On his opposite arm he has an owl perched.
Base: The floor should be mostly regular stone cobblestones. There should be some books lying around.
Example D, not valid (even if it is polite).
Hi. A warrior with a helmet and a sword. He is angry. Thank you.
That's It!
I hope that all these explanations and rules will help you when participating in Make This Mini. Please leave any questions or contributions in the comments. I look forward to seeing your ideas and making something that excites you. I will do my best! See you soon!

2024-09-30 20:02:57 +0000 UTCIf the character is your original creation and you have not given the rights to it to a third party, the setting is not a problem.

2024-09-29 08:54:59 +0000 UTCIt would be valid. The fourth point of the "Rules for ideas submission" section allows a mount or a pet. While mounts can also be a creature, they don't usually have the same level of expression and complexity as a main character. The "one character" rule is meant to limit situations like, for example, a model with two characters fighting. There will always be grey areas in all rules. For example, a goblin riding a troll? We may have to discuss that. A character riding a Ghost Rider style motorcycle? Complex to do for me, but valid. On the issue of size, I may need to reword the rule to make it clearer, but I don't consider it to be a very hard limitation. The model must be a compatible size and be supported by bases between said sizes, but it is acceptable for the model to go over the outline to some extent. Take for example models like the Pumpkin Knight from a previous Halloween, or the Dwarf King and Knight from the Dwarf Mine set. They were all mounted characters supported by a 25mm base. I hope I've made that a bit clearer!

2024-09-28 14:00:24 +0000 UTCHQ stuff are just normal medieval characters so probably there will be hundreds of them. October is medieval stuff as well that can be use for a chibi hero quest

2024-09-28 13:02:34 +0000 UTCMmm wouldn't a hero mounting a ride be a NON VALID one? (Rob Robertson example). First they are 2 miniatures in 1 . Second it break the rule of the size as a cow has to be bigger than a normal 25-35mm miniature. Can you clarify this? Rides can bias the poll a lot as you get 2x1 and bigger miniatures

2024-09-27 07:39:45 +0000 UTCThis is such an exciting idea! I do have a question though about if a character I'm considering submitting would be allowed. I designed a character (a rabbit themed squire) a while back for a contest where the winner was included in the game Shovel Knight; I didn't win, so the character I made isn't in or from anything, but they were designed with that universe in mind - I still really like the design I came up with for that character and think it would look awesome in your style, but I can go with a backup choice if that seems too close to an existing property.
