Hello. I've been using apostrophes and commas to differentiate the upper and lower octaves. I find that's usually more intuitive and user-friendly than using the numeric octave labels. The reference table at the start of the file is there to map one to the other. If I've misunderstood your original comment, please feel free to clarify.
