Helllllo!

I finally have some time to catch my breath before diving into the deadline grind again whew...

I think I have a few more work deadlines until the end of the year then hopefully I can take a bit of a breather!

August and currently September has been pretty busy since I was adjusting to being in Japan for the remainder of 2024 (ish), but I've been trying my best to squeeze in some time to doodle stuff so I don't go insane! haha

This time, I don't have a timelapse but a few process screenshot of the piece I posted on twitter today!

(frame embed)

It's Macaron-chan!! I didn't even finish the full-body/character design but it was really hot in August so I decided to doodle her spontaneously haha

1. This is the very first WIP I saved before I stopped working on it the first time! I think at the moment, I didn't really catch the slight proportion errors as I was just focused on getting as much down on the paper in one go...I think the overall process made me rethink about how I should really spend more time in between the different processes!

2. This is the second WIP I have saved, it's not much different from the first at first glance, but I remember adjusting it with liquify/painting over it quite a bit to get it to the current state! It's a bit easier to see the changes in the gif!

3. This is where I enlisted the help of CSP's asset store since I thought Macaron-chan being on a white background was a bit boring... The asset I used for the frame/folders was this!

I also added a bit of textures while incorporating this asset as well! I forgot the exact steps I took since I was adjusting things on the fly and don't really have set steps haha Just wing it until it looks right to you!

4. Brought the image into photoshop and added a few elements! I actually left the image here for at least a month since I wasn't too sure where I wanted to go with the rest of the image... it seemed a bit empty but I didn't have many ideas to add on anything yet!

5. And of course, the final image! I thought I would add a few more "cat" motifs around the image and maybe frame the entire artwork a bit better. Can't have enough cat motifs afterall! (If you look closely I also added paw + heart lace design to the frills as well!)

aaand that's about it! Usually I would just draw and post on the same day I doodle things, but this time I decided to really take my time with it. I had a lot of fun and I think I learned quite a bit from it too!

I wish I had more time to draw on my own and explore a lot of different themes, but time is so precious...I'll still try to squeeze in doodles here and there though!

Another example of why I don't really rush doodles anymore is something I doodled for FGO's anniversary this year-

I liked how the lighting turned out but I think I made quite a lot of mistakes since I was just focused on getting it down on paper again.

I went back to just paint over it to try to get the feeling down while fixing proportion mistakes etc. Not sure if I'll polish this up or extend the drawing to something bigger but yeah! just wanted to share the bits of stuff I doodle during my spare time haha

I hope this was somewhat insightful!

Thanks for reading! I'll see you guys next time! o7

Thank you for the explanations! This is actually a very valuable insight, as I also tend to rush with my works, noticing various mistakes after publishing. Something to think about~! ^w^ See you next time Nagu-sensei!

Animated WIPs!

It's always so cool to see an artists thought process and how nit-picky they are when creating. Also, love that you put the before and after proportion images into a gif like that. Doubt I would have been able to notice half the changes you made to the face on my own.

あなたの絵はとてもかわいいです、ありがとうございます。

kusoslime

I'll do my best!! ^w^ thank you!! i have more questions but I'll ask them in your next post heh~

It's a custom made brush that gives that multiple stroke effect! The closest brush I found on the asset store that has the same effect is probably this one: https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1752439 ^If you understand the theory behind how to make this brush, you can apply it to your favorite coloring brushes to have the same effect!

Nagu

I don't quite remember the exact steps I took since I was experimenting, but I'm pretty sure I used this auto action from the asset store and played around with different layer blending modes until I got the results I wanted! https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1740387 I'll add this to the post~! o7

Happy birthday & congratulations on the Pixiv Interview~ Thank you for the post despite busy deadlines~ Please feel free to take your time and enjoy the trip Yay Macaron-chan so cute (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄)/ At step 3, did you apply a layer of watercolour paper texture? I really love the choice of blue color in the final image! The paint over version of Mashu-chan really have more "feeling" than the previous version. I think that any drawing you enjoy will definitely have more emotions and we can feel the love in it. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Shizugami

Thank you for this beautiful artwork!!

OMOwl

Thanks for the hard work!! also for the tips (´∀`) now for my question: How do you use or when do you know how to use these lines that i see in your illustrations --> "|||" i usually see these lines on the dark areas of your illustrations. (^w^)

Hi Nagu, thank you for the nice WIP pics along the way alongside explanations. As someone who doesn't really do any art, those really help understand your thought progress. The comparison gif is also pretty nice. Macaron-chan is really really cute, I like how well the catgirl/retro themes mix. The tail curling arount the window is a nice detail. Also the catears on the tab are really adorable. Don't stress yourself too hard on those deadlines, I hope you can enjoy your time in Japan to the fullest!

ErikOderSo

Very cool to read a bit and the process and your thoughts, and to see the differences in gif form. Don't be too hard on yourself, it looks really good! ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ ) Macaron-chan is very cute! ( ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ )

お兄ぎり

heya Nagu, it was a really nice read! I think the gif with the two different WIPs are a nice way to show the differences between them, also all the small extra added paws etc. really make a big difference, I like it. Macaron-chan is very cute! Looking forward to the next update and good luck with the deadlines... ganbare!
