Olde Cookbook Kit Poll 🐻⚔️

You may or may not have heard of my olde cookbook kit mod (previously known as my medieval cookbook but I heavily expanded to include more than just cooking in a previous update.. a long while ago now)

I'm currently massively overhauling and expanding the mod. Which you can find some behind the scenes information here about changes and new things coming. (and also leave your wants and wishes)

I'm curious of a few things and hopefully this poll will better guide me and provide some helpful insight.

I'd love for this mod to reach more players (it holds a treasured place in my heart 💜) I know that medieval/history orientated gameplay isn't for everyone but I feel like the hunting and foraging aspect 🌿🍄 (which is getting a huge update) might interest a few different types of players if it wasn't heavily tied into the rest of the mod, same for the cooking aspect 🍳 if it wasn't mixed in with the rest and was more easily distinguishable on it's own.

Example of how it would be broken down into different mods:

This might also open up the opportunity for more frequent updates to the different parts of the mod as less packages are merged and mixed together.

Of course I want the different parts of the mod to work well with each other (like it currently is) but if they were separated and easier to understand what each part of the mod does, would this then appeal to a larger variety of players if you could pick and choose without it being grouped all together?

Don't panic if you like the mod as it is, I'm not getting rid of anything and all parts of the mod will continue to work well together, the packages will just be separated into different downloads for each part of the mod so it's a little less daunting for those who don't want the full mod 😊

To put it simply, the mod will then become multiple mods with more opportunities for expanding individually.

Hopefully my rambling makes some sense 😆

I can't say how much I love your Olde Cookbook Kit... and the addition of the Hunting Mod? Just made it more to like. I can't wait to see new versions of the Olde Cookbook Kit.. and let me know if you need testers!

IllusoryThrall

I love this mod so much and if it would be separate and expanded I would use it regardless, what I would like is that the recipes would require age appropriate fruits and vegetables (most of veg were not available in 1400s and they came from America)

Bunny Rabbit

I love this Mod and play with it already. But I can see how some parts would appeal to more people if separated. And if it make it easier and faster to update that sounds awesome too.

Rachael Horton

I don't do historical gameplay (although I do use the recipes from this mod), but I do a lot of royalty saves and would love to have hunting parties - stag stalking, fox hunts, pheasant shoots.

Cynthia Counsil

I'd certainly like to expand the foraging part to be more user guided throughout the worlds. It's something to think of for a future update for sure! 😊

bub

honestly id love if foraging was interactive. like hosting an evet with goals! also more recipes but your cookbooks are easily my favorite

Z L

I play mostly historical game play, I currently use the mod as is. I would love nan expansion though with more recipes and more rabbit holes or any other additions that would add more to the historical game play .

Kia Lyons

I love history play so it was a great find for me as-is (and I voted as such). I'd still like it if it were separated, and if that helps you reach more people, I'm all for it!

Hi!! I’m happy to be able to be a Patreon this month!! I think it’s a good idea and maybe it will allow you to make food with the elements we get with the hunting without the brown plates that come with the medieval dishes. I like to cook them when I play this kind of story, but I would love to have some in more modern plates too 😄

Something I'd love to see which I think you alluded to, is a more medieval cooking set-up, which is to say something that looks less like an oven (which medieval peasants would not have inside a wattle and daub house) and more like an open fire in the center of the main room with a tripod or suspended pot or a spit. It sounds like an animation nightmare frankly especially since Sims 4 cooking seems to rely on having a lot of counters close by which they also wouldn't have, but that is the sort of thing that I'd love to see or at least something that is moving a little closer to it. I have seen other medieval mods that replace the fireplace with a very authentic-looking cooking set-up with a spit and a suspended cauldron, but I don't think I've ever seen one you can actually cook with. Something else I'd like to see, maybe for the future, would be more recipes for making preserved food to use instead of refrigeration. So maybe it could be similar to the canning function. You've already got the salted meat. So a dried or salted fish recipe could be similar. Then maybe you could have pickling recipes similar to the canning. They pickled pretty much everything, not just vegetables.

Higglety

Oh thanks for the recommendation! I've been watching Mrs Crocombe for inspiration for the next set of recipes!

bub

Love this mod, tasting history on youtube has many recipes you can add.

Just someone a bit tired

I LOVE this mod - it is indispensable to historical gameplay. Would always love it to be added onto though! And would always love more historical recipes always :) They're my favorite! Would be fun to do recipes from different decades at some point!

Katelyn Smith

Can't wait this is one of my most essential mods!

Jessi Burkette

Hunting and foraging are getting a huge overhaul, i'm reworking it entirely and will definitely have some options for child sims so they can help out too! :)

bub

I have had a few people confused by how to use the single ingredients. When I update the mod and have a better information sheet i'll make sure to have a section explaining the way it works, maybe change the strings to make it easier to understand in game too.

bub

Do you mean it's currently too hard to get all of the ingredients required?

bub

I'm working on some stalls at the moment and banquet tables are on the list! :)

bub

I couldn't find any which is what inspired to to make it in the first place! I love to have my sims live in a historical environment and cooking/getting your own food seems to be a huge part of that! :)

bub

I'm definitely leaning more towards breaking it up into smaller sections, especially with the new additions i'm working on. Plus I think it's a bit much to explain on 1 page.. seeing a wall of text will surely put a lot of players off (including myself trying to write it all without it seeming overwhelming!) It will be easier to update individually I think, and i'm more likely to add new additions more frequently.

bub

Whilst i'm not very knowledgeable on the specific ways of cooking, I do like watching k-dramas and Japanese films/shows. I've even made my own version of the little bamboo princess from princess kaguya and use the sulani fire pit for cooking (it's very limited for the food options and they don't exactly fit with the historical theme) so it is on my huge list of things to add... your dream might not be so distant!! :)

bub

I'm working on improving my 'larger' meshes for objects/furniture etc and more stove options are on my list. I will look into the refrigerator tunings and try to make a compatible medieval-ish fridge :)

bub

I'd love if kids could forage, or set traps or small game like rabits, chipmunks etc. Just not be able to hunt big game. Also if sometimes when foraging they could come back with Herbalist ingredients, frogs or collectibles.

Jessi Burkette

To clarify I voted I liked it as is(combined) but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like it broken into components. I am a historic gameplay person though & pretty nerdy when it comes to that.

Higglety

I play with this mod constantly and if anything I’d like options to make it more medieval— more pre-exploration-era produce recipes and foraging items for instance. Also the unloading of butter & flour isn’t intuitive. I’m used to it now but a lot of people don’t understand it and give up when they can’t figure out why they can’t prepare the recipes.

Higglety

I love this mod, my one suggestion would be making the meals more attainable. I've played with the mod for over a sim year and haven't been able to access every meal yet.

Jessi Burkette

There's a bit much to explain all of it here but the link in the post takes you to the mod where there's more details :) It's not as informing as I'd like it to be which is something I will work on once i've finished the overhaul :)

bub

what does this mod consist of?

LaToya Johnson

I often pair this with BrazenLotus foragable plants to work with my story.(i created a "forrest surrounding my cottage for the family to collect from each morning).. maybe a collab is in order. 😏

Starr

And you know my only wishes, if you have the time for it, are custom banquet tables and/or stalls.

ingeli

I would play with it however you change it. All of it, all the time. Can not live without it.

ingeli

Even though I don't play Medieval type games, I love this mod! It is perfect for my more rustic sims living off the land (off the grid), and it is perfect for me as it is. I also love the simple foods because not every sim is a gourmet cook.

Mendota Kelly

I've played with the mod in my fantasy save but I think a modular format might bring more people in. I don't usually use the foraging part, mostly just the cooking. But really, whatever is easiest for you!

Jwingrider

I love the Mod and whatever you decide to chance i will use it :D

MissBumblebeebutt

I love this coobook i use it in my decade challenge but i also think who i would love to have the hunting in my other challenge to hunt meet who works with other recipe. This cookbook is amazing for us who play in historical way so thank y for this amazing job.

Lisbeth Göransson

I love the ye olde cookbook so much and you're the only one (I know of) who has a mod that caters to historical gameplay in that way. Thank you!

MajorSimmer

I've watched a lot of modders choose to break larger mods with broad scope into a module format. I think, if its easier for you to manage bite sized updates to each module, that separating things like this into different sections of an umbrella mod would be just fine. That said, if its easier for you to keep it all together, do that! I honestly would play with it either way. I pick and choose the parts of the mod I use on any given day anyway.

Azuhra

i'm not exaggerating when i say that ye olde cookbook is my absolute favorite and most indispensable mod. i can't imagine historical gameplay without it. i love it as is, and i don't feel that the hunting and foraging are *too* tied to the theme right now, but however you'd prefer to expand and rework it i'll be thrilled to see an update :)

Charlotte Bloys

I vote for whatever is better for you. I am a historical player. This mod is how I found you way back before Patreon lol. I use it every day and will continue to use it no matter the packaging. Thank you for this mod and everything you do.

Lady D

I’ve played with it as is and it’s now one of my must have mods. If it got more expansion I would be thrilled! A significant amount of my game is fantasy historical gameplay. It may be nice to see a version of the custom stoves that would be more at home in a big castle kitchen. This may be outside of the purview of the mod, but for my Sulani sims, I do wish there was more available in terms of off-the-grid cooking for them, specifically over the fire (and indoor cookfire) options. Or in Komorebi historical Japanese cooking options like an irori and kamado. Once again, a lot and maybe not relevant, but I like to dream. 😌

DiscreetMemories

I love this mod, and often use it in conjunction with Ilazyneiph's mods, especially his survival mod. I love all aspects of it, but my one wish would be for some "refrigerator" that would work with it and be, I guess, at least visually period centric. If that makes sense.

Shona Coverdale

I have played with the current mod and love all the aspects of it. There are other 'off the grid' survival style mods that your hunting/foraging module would pair greatly with. And there other creators that focus heavily on medieval/period play that the stoves & recipes tie into seamlessly. I think if it makes updating and adding new elements easier for you, please break it up and make it modular. Either way, I'll play it. <3

dianathejuicebox

5) I have never played with the current mod but would like to play with it/them once they are available/finish. 😃
