I don't think he faked his death because that would require his wife to lie for him and risk going to prison herself. After all he put her through, I don't think she'd agree to that

"I would if not for the possible legal ramifications" this wasn't entrapment, he was honest about what he wanted the entire time.

It's really a shame. This is probably the most tragic one of all of them. Not to his own personal life, but to many other people. Wolin was a can er researcher, and quite a famous one in his field. He was basically a rockstar in the world of cancer research. As respected and lauded as you could get. He honestly could've gotten the Nobel prize in a few years had he not messed everything. He was every parent's wet dream. His mother died shortly before the sting. And she was probably so proud of him her entire life. The type of pride that most mothers can't even fathom. The type of pride most most mothers would above the moon, if their son only achieved 10% of what Maurice achieved. And with that prestige, also came money. Lots and lots of money. He was rich beyond belief. He had it all. Mansions, cars, boats, a (supposedly) happy family. He must've still had a ton of money, even after having his medical license revoked. Because after divorcing him, his wife still took him back.
But that's not why this is tragic. If anything, I find it funny that he lost everything over this. Because this is such a dastardly act.
No, it's tragic because this man actually saved people's lives. He saved people who were suffering from one of the worst diseases known to mankind. And who knows what he could've done had he not gone and messed it up. Possibly developed a miracle drug, technique, screening process, etc, that could've saved people. Because he was still fairly young during the sting. Only in his 40s, and research doctors like this, usually don't retire, and continue to do this well into their 70s, or even possibly their 80s. That's what hurts me.

Damn man! I never got to say thank you for posting this one some years back. I'm sure you were already working on this one long before I asked but I was surprised this was posted not much long after I did mention it. Maurice's meltdown was one of the best ever on live TV!
Keep it up Dave! Love your TCAP content.
