Dragon Strike Trappers Suggestions

Hello Fellow Trappers!

Earlier today we announced that going forward patrons would be voting for future releases starting with July's release. While there is still time to vote it seems pretty clear that the winner is the dragonstrike trappers. Since we need to get started on the art and design for these models we are opening the post up for suggestions now. If the winner settles out to something different in the next few days then we can change it but for now we will tentatively go forward with this.

Here is a little about what we have in mind for a dragon strike release. Each trapper will have their own Souldbond Dragon mount. A Soulbond Dragon is a type of dragon that forms special connections with a humanoid creature. That connection shapes the dragon causing their appearance and abilities to change meaning no two Soulbond dragons look alike. This set will take place in Central Stoica so think traditional fantasy. While all trappers represent the bravest and most skilled of hunters, the dragonstrike trappers will be elite trappers that are well equipped and organized instead of the typical ragtag rough n' tumble trappers. We are thinking each dragon will have a saddled and non saddled version so you can use them as standalone monsters or mounts. The dragon mounts will be in the 75mm base range (huge size) or 50mm base (large size) so instead of the normal release we will have one big monster to fill the main dragon role and then four trappers and four mounts with no additional monsters for that set. For the main monster we where thinking perhaps our take on a Tarasque? if not what mega threat would justify calling in the dragonstrike? What races, classes or weapons do you want to see amongst the trappers? What ideas do you have for dragons? We won't necessarily use all suggestions but we do like to hear your input. Let us know in the comments below what you think would be cool to see. We are excited to involve our community more going forward and grow the lodge even more!

May your blades stay sharp and your flesh on your bones!

I would love to see a human barbarian, bare-chested and rocking a beer belly. Just drunk, crazy, and hunting dragons with his equally berserk dragon (something big and wild that only someone crazy would ride). Elite doesn't need to mean disciplined, right? and i've been looking for a model like that for a while, but finding and character that is not peak physical condition is a tough one.

Darren

I know I’m probably in the minority on this, but if we’re talking classic fantasy, I would just love to see a boss that is just a gargantuan ancient dragon. Absolutely massive classic red or black dragon with some cool battle scars and stuff. For riders I love the idea of an aasimar paladin (or cleric) with a gold dragon like someone else suggested whose scales look like armor and has the holy symbols in it. Big lance and spears. Or a monk rider with a crazy fast dragon, they swoop right in on the target and the monk constantly jumps on to enemies and back onto its mount while the both coordinate melee strikes and dodge attacks. Dwarf artificer with a big heavyweight of a mount chucking bombs. Warlock with a mount that looks more like some eldritch being

It would be great to pay homage to the original "Dragon Slayer" only this time they're a team instead of adversaries. I'm picturing a massive "Darker" looking Dragon with a heavily armored warrior armed with a huge "Dragon slayer Lance" or maybe the Wizard mounted pointing his wand. I think this is one where you could get away with swithing bewteen the two different riders.

I would be ecstatic to see some love for the little guys. gnomes and halflings don't get enough love. Imagine a Gnome alchemist with something like the old school aviator googles, lobbing alchemical bombs off of the back of dragon and another with a rear-facing repeater crossbow.

Darren

elf on a fey beast(Harpy eagle)- perched sideways on an ancient massive tree, desert wings (quetzlcoatlus as base) with a bedouin, and finally a lizardfolk underwater on a Bog beast (you're on tour own) but he's lyieing prone on it as it swims underwater

Shaun Dunn

dwarf with a stone crawler dragon Gecko toes

Shaun Dunn

I have some ideas

Shaun Dunn

I'd like to see an underwater theme with like a sea elf with a seahorse dragon, a seaweed dragon, or a coral dragon.

They do mostly special creatures. If you want humanoids you should check out titan forge

Alexandre Charland

I would love to see some Dwaven love. A traditional heavy armored dwarf with a big hammer. Riding a beefy dragon with a big jaw and maybe a bit of a stomach? , maybe also with armor?

1- Rider- Same Species as Marlow, except Male w/ harpoon (and quivers w/ extra ammo) Dragon- (Barracuda inspired) Visible Weapons- Detachable Anchors to "bomb" the enemies with. 2- Rider- Aarakocra (Same species as Ahmut) Dragon- Crushing Brow (Horns of great horned sheep) Visible Weapons- Dragon "Ramming Horns", Long Bow 3- Rider- Same species as Azaezal, except female, has staff. Just before impact the rider turns into a shadow Dragon- Ooze Dragon Visible Weapons- None. Dragon Splats on target. 4- Rider- Female Leonin in full plate w/ Lance Dragon- Bronze Dragon Visible Weapons- Back up lances and spears in huge quivers 5- Rider- Lizardfolk, female, spears Dragon- Pteradragon Visible Weapons- Carrying a boulder to drop on enemy

Jeb Worrall

The question for me is whether or not these Elite trappers will be using dragons that are already in the DTL roster, existing D&D/Pathfinder Dragon species, or new dragons we have never seen before. That being said... Ive noticed that the status quo for each month has been 1 Dragon, 1 mount, 3-4 trappers, and 1-2 misc monsters and since this is going to be typical fantasy... this would be my take on it... A Human or Half-Elf Cleric/Paladin of Bahamut and their Silver/Bronze Dragon Partner. A Lizardfolk Barbarian and their subservient Vile Blossom Dragon (Gotta have a crazy one in there) An Elven Mage and their Gold Dragon A winged Kobold Ranger who fights alongside a Fairy Dragon

Zachary Scriff

Maybe the "boss monster" could be an elite team working for the enemy. Think starfox vs starwolf.

It is pretty clear that japanese dragons are wanted from this discussion, however i think that will be in a different set. If this is classic fantasy I think red, green, white and copper dragons stick out. Going with art history about how often those dragons are seen in classic fantasy art not really what they are in the dnd world. Also a black dragon with Frazetta feel. As for my vote of type and look I have always liked copper dragons because they seemed like a true ally to humans and dwarfs. Other dragons seem to always be far to superior to even care about the affairs of man much less be riden by a human. Plus the copper dragon seems like they want to be friends with a creature just to make jokes along the way. Bard or dwarf warrior with copper dragon and a bunch of unique stuff that says they are best buds on an epic adventure.

Bobby Blanding

How about a mechanical/clockwork dragon with a warforged rider?

I'd love to see a heavily fey inspired dragon, maybe with an eladrin rider, using one of the seasons to inspire the theme. Also, a 2 headed dragon with twin riders could be pretty awesome.

Great release guys! the concept seems awsome! It would be fantastic to see a female halfling rogue (since pratically nobody does it) with his slighty smaller mount dragon. Also would be cool to see some marine dragons :)

Scorpion dragon a la Deathgripper with a vampire hunter rider. Fellbat dragon with vampire rider in plate mail. Wale dragon with polar bearman rider. Crocodile dragon with a mummy rider. A Tasmanian batwolf dragon with a platypus riding in its pouch.

Gunter Schmidt

This is hilarious

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

A bit of a small suggestion, but I always felt the dawnguard armor from skyrim makes for a modest, but badass appearance. Not sure if that's what you're aiming for for any of the models, but thought I'd throw it out there!

How about a light poison stealth dragon with a foxman trapper.

1)Warforged dragon mount with Tabaxi (small housecat) Trapper 2) An ice giant or other oversized trapper, he is the dragon's mount(!), the blue dragon sits on him like a backpack and flies him around, spitting lightning. Codename : Hailstorm

if we are going "typical fantasy" here are a few ideas. for a boss monster, how about... A devil dragon! a seven headed being of cruelty with a portal to hell! a famine dragon. a one creature plague of locusts, he devours all, and is never full! a classic smaug style fire dragon. he is just large, and in charge, with a single weak spot. for hunters here are a few classic fantasy ideas. a holy priest with an angel dragon, or a coatl a berserker with a totemic dragon a fighter with a dragon in full plate a bard with a drunk copper dragon a general type hunter with a royal inspired dragon a halfling with a short fat dragon who loves baked goods and makes burning hot sling stones an elf with a forest dragon a half ork with a half ogre dragon a gnome with a clockwork dragon

Alice

Well, I'm disappointed by the collective decision here but understand that there is no point to a popularity poll to gauge public interest if you don't go with the popular option. Leaving aside my substantial desire very specifically _not_ to go this route, if this is indeed what y'all do, I'd love to see a complete avoidance of all dragons. Make the target monster something not at all lizard-y, and to that effect I suggest either a truly gigantic demon/devil or, and hear me out on this, a multi-part, multi-option giant kit, something where we could print an entire tribe of giants with different weapon options, heads, and the like. After all, surely the biggest problems require the biggest solutions, and what bigger problem than a tribal war-party of tyrannical raiding giants?

Gregory Morris

Another idea i have is a celestial on maybe like a sun or star dragon. You could have the star dragon flying and have like shooting stars flying around it as it flies. Maybe make the aasamar wielding like a Morningstar or casting sacred flame. The July models really make me want to play a UA Drake Warden

I would really enjoy seeing a Shadar-Kai on a shadow dragon. I thing that would be really cool. The dragon could have like an undead appearance and the elf could be in some badass plate armor with a longsword

Japanese or chinese dragon mounts would be dope

Drew Mobley

Based on a decently rounded group to cover each others weak areas and things that are not seen often: Tank/Instigator type warrior - Some type of Insect Humanoid (Ant or Mantis) riding a type of Wasp Dragon/Dragonfly with debilitating poison attacks. Regenerative type heavy armor with bright colors that has "Danger" coloring patterns. Has wings so that they can assist their companion with harassing the target. Damage/Assault type warrior - A Giant riding a two headed dragon with complementary breath attacks (think poison fog that is flammable). The giant could love heavy weapons to get the quarry to the ground and then dropping from the sky and getting close in melee attacks and not caring if he is getting hit by some of the other hunters area attacks, he is having too much fun. Damage / Range type scout - Cephalopod archer/ranger type that can aim and shoot in any direction during combat with multiple weapons and has an octopuses camoflage ability. They ride a water type dragon with many features of a lionfish which the trapper uses to poison their projectiles with. Support/Utility type cleric/healer/artificer - A no nonsense, highly trained lady who can/will/does keep everyone in line, gear in good repair (even if she has to get her boots dirty kicking someone arse to do their maintenance), and maintains the health of all of the dragons.... oh, the trappers too. She rides around with an arachnodrake that is extremely intelligent and is the only dragon that speaks. The arachnodrake is responsible for the binding and temporary lodgings for the trapper team. The mega threat would be (since I can not lock down on one idea) a Chimera. One can choose any number of creatures to mix and match in different ways.

Skeuter76

I'm not sure how feasible it would be (especially if it's supposed to be tied to a specific region), but I like the idea of having aged/levelled up versions of existing trappers that have soulbound with one of the dragon from their set (Marlow + a coastal quillback, Cuoxy + a vile blossom, Ramos + a glimmerscale, etc). The soulbound dragons could be used individually as a variant or greater form of the original dragon too, though I'm not sure if there's expectations that each creature/model be unique from anything that's been produced before.

Like a void corrupted eldritch horror type dragon for the big bad

1. A cloud dragon would be super interesting & fun. 2. Water dragon that is like a Chinese dragon serpent. 3. A bat dragon would be sooo awesome (as long as they're good) 4. Fae dragon 5. A trapper who is an archer would be cool (female preferred :P) 6. Boss: Draco lich or skeleton dragon + maybe his own soulbound that is destroying all the dragon eggs of all other species & consuming their powers.

Rae Farley

I know you have only just announced it, but after reading all the comments I would love to see a Dragon Strike Trappers part 2 at some point in the future because there are so many good ideas here.

I agree with the water dragon. Like an Asian water dragon would be Awesome

Rae Farley

Hear me hear me out, Ancient Dragon Turtle. For the Trappers, lets go Anti Hero with a Vampire a grizzled yet beautiful/handsome hunter with centuries of experience the dragon being vicious looking with its own fangs, a almost mammalian pelt, Raptor talons. Next how about a new race I thinking Kangaroo Folk like in Warriors of Virtue and Tank Girl. Its dragon being Crocodilian meets Serpent features with Feathered wings. My last idea is a Sasquatch rider deep wilderness kind of like Harry Henderson meets Native American Shaman strong in element bending like magic, the dragon being a majestic forest behemoth with Great Elk or Moose features or maybe like a Kodiak Bear vibe.

House Hendoe

Maybe a group of the most elite trappers from different regions. Like a woodsman riding a dragon that has horns and moss. Or a Eastern warrior with a traditional Japanese dragon.

That's a kinda frightening... I am both pleased and terrified with your suggestion. Some awe inspiring leviathan able to suck the power or aspect of other creatures around it like a soul rendering vampiric demigod (just adjectives for flavor) you sir are disgusting. But I'm down

Love the artificer idea. Maybe a bomber type dragon, with the dragon clutching a satchel of explosives.

Shaun Mayne

How about instead of a Tarrasque, Tiamat or a Dracolich you create your own ultimate dragon? Perhaps something that is its own kind of dragon hunter, consuming and taking aspects of powerful dragons already in your canon to create a monstrous draconic chimera.

Nick Holmes

I'm imagining alot of thing. One is that each of the four riders are a different genasi, and the dragons taking the elements too. So a Fire Genasi/Fire Dragon, Earth Genasi/Dragon, Sir Genasi/Dragon and Water Genasi /Dragon No matter what, I'd feel like the Waterdragon is a much. Maybe even one inspired by asian dragons

Frank Voldfrom

Maybe more of a ghidorah/hydra-type Dragon! Aka something with multiple heads. Also I would love to see a sorcerer trapper next to some more “brawny” types. Just my two cents, I will like whatever you create anyway!

Tessa Smit

I was just coming here to post the exact same thing.

Harold Harmon

Since our world is unique and separate from dnd we would have to stay away from Tiamat specifically but something on that level would be great, I love the dracholich idea. Especially a mishmashes monstrosity of several dragons formed together.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

lich dragon is cool

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

digging that idea

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Artificer sounds like a must. I don't think we have done one yet and a dragon with some sweet tech would be cool.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Tiamat pairs well with elite dragon riders as a BBEG. Think you should go full dragonlance with the riders and mimic a typical dnd party. Knight with a dragon sized lance, a mage with his pack dragon full of arcana, a rogue with a lithe shadow dragon and a cleric of bahamut complete with one of bahamuts golden dragon followers.

Mechadragon for the large!

I think expanding on dragons and aspects of their riders. Radiance type dragon for cleric/paladin, shadow type dragon for rogue, gem type for maybe artificer or dwarf. A ranged character could have a dragon like a thorn or something that they use the growths as projectiles. Again brainstorming and getting fantastical and strange ideas

I'll add my voice to the Tiamat/Dracolich camp rather than the tarrasque , but I have no doubts that your rendition of a tarrasque could be amazing. For the trappers, I'm torn between having very different trappers (inspired by different cultures) and having a unifying thing tying them together

W.L

I agree that an avatar of Tiamat or maybe a dracolich makes more sense for elite trappers

K Vector

A tabaxi rogue trapper (i know, typical), and a slightly feline looking dragon too would be awesome! They could both be changed to work in the shadows, stealth, phantom-y. Perfect for night ops

An earth genasi heavyweight fighter with a giant maul would be cool. They could be riding a dragon that took on the characteristics of the genasi, having large protruding rocks or plating covering its body, and a giant club-like tail

Loving this mixture of races. Dragonborn/stag type as leader having that regal nature alone is inspiring as any could imagine. Almost makes me think a forest dragon with the sheer strength of wood and earth with nature's fury as its abilities would be a daunting thing to see entire the world.

Totally agreed

I had the same thought exactly

One should be a watermage (merfolk or so?) riding a water drake that is designed to make use of transparant resins, very smooth and liquid. To contrast that you want something riding a very chunky jagged rock dragon (think blue dragons or yak/Buffalo) with its rider some form of half giant barbarian or so. Then a roguish type, I’m thinking monkey/lean cat folk/gnome riding something that screams speed over strength on a drake that looks harmless but breakneck fast. Have that in a very dynamic racing position. Lastly there needs to be the leader type. This dragon needs to look intimidating and regal so think gold dragons or even the one from never ending story? It’s rider probably a paladin, fighter or cleric. Either go the “human hero” look (to really nail that default look). Or use a lion/dragonborn/stag type humanoid as hero. Something that just emanates charisma/leasership

Jeffrey Ernst

Something like the wolfhawk mount from WoW would be awesome. It's like a wolf with feathers but sorta like a wyvern/dragon as well! Just an idea and something new.

WardensForgeCreations

I'm not sold on a tarrasque as the bbeg, we are talking about trappers here, and we are talking elites. Would an avatar of tiamat or something akin to that nature fit the bill for why the dragon trappers would be the ones called in for this elite hunt? Furthermore there is some bond that makes these dragon trappers unique. Do the dragons represent some kind of aspect of the hunter they are bonded with. Of course I am only spitballing a base idea as I have much respect for the models that you churn out. So let's say you had a paladin type warrior in plate mail, some metallic dragon perhaps that is just as heavily armored as said paladin for a mount. As a previous comment said about artificer, I am partial to them myself. Perhaps the most fun could be had here with the equipment an artificer could make for the trappers themselves. Or some kind of conjoining of dragon and machine technology, for his/her chosen mount.

Surely the ultimate prey for a group of elite dragon hunters is something akin to Tiamat?

Nick Holmes

An angelic paladin atop a golden dragon, with the beast's shining scales having shifted and reformed to resemble the dramatic, angular lines of its rider's holy armour. Key areas like the dragon's shoulders could resemble pauldrons, with tapestries depicting the paladin's religion being carved directly into its unbreakable hide.

A spartan warrior like rider on a armored dragon that he would use the a wrecking ball and the spartan would be the lighter quicker fighter and the dragon as the frontline.

Definitely the Tarasque. With regards to the foursome, I would think break them up like a adventuring party layout, 1 caster, 1 melee warrior (some pole arm type), 1 ranged warrior type. That would make for very different mount types as well and for the last one, I wonder how a monk type would change the look/behavior of the mount. Will be very interesting to see what you do with this.

Tabaxi with cheetah dragon!! Orc with heavy bull like dragon Drow with dark faie dragon Kalashtar with a spirit dragon Tarrasque would be amazing, or a dragon lich, or some kind of dreadnought?

Definitely weapons that can work from dragon back - lances, tridents, chains, crossbows/bows/muskets. Maybe some grappling hooks. Tarrasque is an ok choice, but a lot of kaiju-tier world enders could fit. It would be neat if whatever monster it was also flew - nothing like an epic dogfight!

Jake Chappelle

Genasi or elemental-like riders with the elements forming part of the bond would be sweet.

ShogunLogan

I'm feeling a FF-like Dragoon-type. Heavy (yet agile) armor, lance, and small wyvern sidekick. Heck yes! I need this model in my life 😍

Jason Keene

A tentacled demonic monstrosity of a dragon, and it would be cool to see a Ranger dragon rider with a bow and arrow and an Artificer on the back of a dragon.

Julianne Edwards

YES. TARRASQUE PLEASE.
