Weekly Mail #8 - Planning for Dark Souls 3

Thank you for the encouragement on the last post. I'm looking at new videos differently now. I have enough subs that making content for them should be my top priority mentally, and that the channel will grow at whatever rate it will. I'm lucky to have the audience that I have. I hit 200k views this week. That's a hell of a lot. I won't complain about lackluster exposure again.

I'm about 10 hours from being finished with my hard mode run of Dragon's Dogma. That'll put my total time well over a hundred hours, which means I've played this game more than I did Fallout 4. I'm hoping to keep the video below 30 minutes but sometimes I have a lot more to say than I realize when I start the writing process.

Either way, this is taking a while. The game isn't that big when you understand it, but there's a lot to look at in Dragon's Dogma and I'm surprised by how complex my thoughts are becoming on it during the second playthrough.  Hopefully that translates into a good video.

The short review I did on Factorio was a success. I was able to write, record, and edit the whole thing within a day. But I had played the game before and had new footage recorded from earlier in the month in preparation for the steam release. It was fun to be 5 minutes into video editing and already half done rather than looking ahead at another 40 minutes; I like the longer videos after I'm finished, but I think shorter ones could be good.

The problem is that it depends on the game. I thought Darkest Dungeon was a 20 hour title and it'd be a quick video. So it's always a gamble. Still, long critiques will be the focus of the channel.

I want to get things sorted in time for April. So that means I'll likely only have 2 videos out after Dragon's Dogma before Dark Souls 3 is out. Maybe 3 if I find a short game--Stardew Valley is something I'm considering. I also really want to play The Witness, both for my own enjoyment and for a video.

Then I have some light Dark Souls content planned for early April. After that--I have no idea. I don't know how long Dark Souls 3 will take me to complete, so April might be a quiet month for the channel. I want to do a really good job with it and not feel rushed. I'll likely play through it at least three times. So the video might not be out until May. Hopefully that's understandable.

Ideally I could have some short videos made ahead of time to fill in some weeks after Dark Souls 3 releases. Maybe I'll think of some potential ideas to talk about next week.
