Your Favourite Patreon Alternatives?
Added 2023-10-01 22:06:55 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
Patreon has had a lot of issues lately, and while I have no plans of using any other service anytime soon, I was reminded of their overall company issues from the recent Tom Nicholas' latest video about the Rise and Fall of Patreon.
It's quite good, and you should watch it, if you have time:
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXyN3-gQwJw
Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/tomnicholas-the-rise-and-fall-of-patreon
If Patreon does implode, or they really start milking creators to the point of breaking, what would be your preferred alternative? Would you prefer a non-VC-backed platform like Ko-Fi.com, would you move to a non-YouTube platform like Nebula? Have you thought about this at all?
Let me know in the comments!
Thanks!
Jason

I already watch your content on Nebula, but don't see how it would replace Patreon for you. If you're going to bother to dump Patreon because of its drive to gouge participants, avoiding VC stuff sounds necessary if you expect it to last at all. Not that I expect something like Ko-fi to last forever, but it might make it you know, more than 5 years before getting corrupted. Liberapay is steadfastly low-investor, but has the slight disadvantage of supporting fewer payment methods and not being quite as obvious for how to set up for the payer. (I can't speak for the content maker.) I have hopes that if it can get popular enough, they might end up being able to pay staff to make it a bit easier.

2023-10-29 14:34:38 +0000 UTCLow Tech Magazine uses Liberapay - I have no idea how it is from the creator's point of view. Maybe just a payment platform and nothing more. I also have a Nebula account, thanks to you.

2023-10-16 01:01:28 +0000 UTCI'm fine with wherever you move (already have nebula), but I wholeheartedly support leaving Patreon now. They've always been a bit iffy, but the new UI update has made the site nigh unusable for me, and makes it clear they aren't listening to supporters/creators at all.

2023-10-07 03:44:23 +0000 UTCI agree with this. I'm only here to contribute $ so you can keep making good content and not for any of the perks. I just want a simple way to get a bit of cash in your pocket each month. I like that Patreon is to-the-point and not complicated to use, so would prefer moving to another simple platform if need be.
2023-10-04 01:15:21 +0000 UTCI’m giving just to support your work, not for early access to videos or anything like that so even just a recurring donation via PayPal or something would work for me
2023-10-03 07:55:12 +0000 UTCEvery week I catch myself searching for "YouTube Alternatives" I was looking at D tube, but that looks like it's going nowhere faster than Esperanto. Yes, I probably will stick to Nebula. I bought a yearly subscription, but have never watched it. The site needs some work, but it's nice to directly support the creators.
