Right, it's like 2 AM at the time of writing and I'm actually so mad about this, I want to see if you lot agree with me or if I'm being a cunt. So my mate Sam is really into this girl called Ellie but he's an insecure bastard and he's friend-zoned himself hard (He asked her if he should ask out another girl and she told him he should, to give just one of many examples). We go to the local pub tonight and it turns out she's there, and they're talking a lot. However, she's just super friendly anyway, so that doesn't really mean anything. She's dancing with everybody including him, but when we go over to the bar she gets to talking to my mate Max. Max, for context, is like 6ft 2, slim-muscular built, super good looking, super charismatic. So she's talking to him and they're obviously flirting, and she's gazing up at him twirling her hair around her finger. Honestly, there may as well be love hearts in her eyes, it was blindingly obvious. Sam pulls me over, and he's like "Help me get with Ellie". I tell him I reckon she's into Max as nicely as I can and he looks like a wounded animal, just completely shattered, so the rest of us get Max to back off from her to give Sam a chance, and he agrees. However, it's to no avail as Sam bottles it and just sort of talks to her as a mate. Fast forward a couple of hours and we're all home. I open our group chat and see Sam throwing himself a pity party. Just sending videos of him crying and shit, "I'm ugly I'll never get a girl", the most pathetic shit I've ever seen. So apparently, he's confessed his feelings to her over message despite having her about the entire night to chat to her in person, and they also hardly talk to one another. This was her reply to him: "No worries :) I think it was really brave and maybe I would feel differently but obviously we haven't spoken in a while but I do think ur such a nice guy and I had so much fun tonight x" Now, maybe I'm way too cynical, but to me, that's her rejecting him but being super nice about it, which is completely in character because this girl has a heart of gold, genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met. However, everybody else in this group chat is telling him there's a chance and that her message constitutes a maybe, I guess because of the "I might feel differently but we haven't spoken in a while". But basically I've been trying to convince the guy to pick himself, stop wallowing in self-pity, and roll it on home. He's liked her for about 3 years now and it's just crippling him, he's a complete mess and she's so clearly signposted that she's not interested imo, but everybody else is convincing him to keep chasing and I just don't get it. So that's where the advice comes in; am I being too cynical and harsh to him, or does he just need to pick himself up and move on now? On a sidenote, my Clubhouse mug arrived today and it looks fantastic so cheers lads, any listeners be sure to pick one up! Thanks for hearing me out and have a great modern-day!
