PHOTO BLOG: Abandoned Tannahill Scheme

I went to meet Baz and Liam at an abandoned estate local to me.

I'd just been at a protest in town and had shot a roll of Tmax. This left me with a roll of Phoenix, a 200 speed film that I always shoot at 100 and process normally.

The sun was starting to set, which meant if I wanted to shoot any photos I'd have to use my tripod for those slow slutter speeds. In a pinch I shoot handheld down to 1/15th, but the lighting I was in needed upto a full second of exposure.

So, in the interest of just trying something new out, I went at it.

Phoenix is a weird film stock. It's like "You want colour and saturation? Mate, I have got you. Contrast? More than you'll ever need. Oh, but you want detail? Fuck you. Bitch."

It's definitely got character, and significant share of haters. But pffff, I don't mind it... I'd just love some detail.

My patience is limited at the best of times, and using a tripod certainly tested it.

I will forever love a photo with a trolley in it. The nearest ASDA is a 2 mile walk from this trolley. The dedication youths have to getting these to far flung places impresses me more than it should.

Here's Baz...

and Liam!

I feel like I've been in a creative rut lately where photography is concerned, and coming away from this with a roll of photos that I actually really like was a welcome change of pace, so I'm gonna go back soon with the video rig so I can try put a little something together for my YouTube channel.

In the meantime, if you want to see more from this very roll, then I've uploaded the full set here!
