Here's a small selection of photos from last nights Empire State Bastard show.
There was no photo pit, and instead I was crammed to the front of the stage amongst the crowd. Not a problem for me, I love environments like that and you get to feel an actual part of it!
I was shooting film - no idea how that turned out yet, as I didn't finish the roll. But after the first song I decided I'd go side stage to try for something a little different (I've only ever shot from the pit/crowd before) as I was informed I was the only photographer approved to be side stage during the set, which was a pretty fucking cool feeling tbh!
I got out of the crowd, to the wee door by the stage, and that's when the security tell me that for whatever reason the tour manager changed his mind. Gutted. But also, fuck, I just lost my place up front!
If I'd have known, I'd have just stuck it out at the front of the stage with the crowd and rolled with it... But now I was out of the crowd? Ehhh, I didn't wanna be pushing my way through again, with my bag, in the mental heat, pissing people off - so I sort of bowed out, and decided to just enjoy the night.
The position I ended up in didn't really lend itself to a wide lens like I prefer to shoot, but I got a few shots from elsewhere in the crowd and a real nice one from the second floor which is actually my favourite of the night!
The band announced that this is their last show for at least a couple of years, so I'm keen to hear what's next for them when the time comes.
