72230: Rollei RPX 25 | March 2024
Added 2024-04-03 13:27:40 +0000 UTCNormally I rattle through film at a decent pace. Nothing that I'd consider wasteful, afterall I'm shooting because I enjoy it, but March in particular was notably lacking on the film front, but that's because of this bloody film. It really held me up.
A friend gifted me a couple rolls of it as I was leaving my job, and I excitedly loaded on in right away. The following day, we had incredible weather. But after that... not so much. And it became way difficult to shoot much at all given that it's a 25 ISO film and also I'd thrown a deep orange filter on it which meant I was metering around ISO 12. Usually I'm shooting 800. The difference is wild.
It didn't help that I was keen to get through the film and see how it looked, as I'd never shot it before. As a result, I pretty much just shot anything and there are very much some 'photos for the sake of photos', as I want to understand how it looks before I commit the second roll to a specific day out.
Anyway, it's super contrasty. Undoubtedly helped by the filter. But it's still to a degree I wasn't expecting at all. I've not even looked the film up to see how it looks for other people.
The highlights for me are the photo of Axl being told off by a swan, and maybe one of the two trees with the deep blue (ehhh, black) sky. I've flung them to the start of the galley. The rest are just in the order they were uploaded.
Initial thoughts: it won't be a 'go to' black and white stock, but I'm also not pissed at how it looks. Kinda into it, even if it's a bit on the extreme side of things for me.
