The 33rd County, Part 5: Boston Beatdown

On this episode of 33rd County Shocks and Tom bond over their shared love of Hardcore and men endangering their physical well-being for no good reason by watching the “documentary” Boston Beatdown which captures the violence and, uh, “Celtic Pride” of the Boston Hardcore scene in the late 1990s to early 2000s.

Shocks talking about Jagermeister reminded me of an old roommate and his love of Jager bombs.

First 10 minutes of the episode = me having flashbacks to every bike messenger house I woke up on the floor of at some point. I was never even a messenger, I just hung out/drank with them. Never had the nerve to go for the stick and poke tattoo in the kitchen either.

RIP Sean Lipinski! Member of Minneapolis hardcore bands Holding On, Regret and Sunset. Great episode!

you heard of the band Facewreck? they're from Pittsburgh not Boston but they're lampooning this hardcore ethos posture aesthetic and not only it's very funny but also the tunes and the live shows are really good! People in the crowd do cartoonish mosh pit spin kick dancing then take a minute to catch their breath. Extremely good

I had to turn the speed down to .75x to make it sound normal

Thank you for reminding me that I have a Righteous Jams cd that I loved when I was 15.

When no ones injoke themed thrash band is practicing Aaron Cometbus is in there writing.

Is it really a punk house unless there's a tiny, stinky, mattress lined 'practice' room with eight bands worth of gear all running off the one power outlet?

End It is a great hardcore brand out of Baltimore that goes hard as fuck. Their single One Way Track is 4 songs in 5.5 minutes, definitely worth checking out.

Yah ease up on the silence filter, let the words breathe a little

Was this edited by a bot? I don’t think I’m on anything strong enough to have both Shocks and Tom clipping so much. No dead air at all is a bit unnerving.

Is Avatar an official part of the Megachusetts universe seeing as Jake and his brother are both from Boston?
