Food For Pigs Is Not A Person: The Susan Monica Story [Early Premiere]

Enjoy your early premiere, VIPs!

As I mentioned on the last commentary, it's a very bread n butter type vid, but I actually thought it came out well in the end, and who doesn't like a bit of back to basics sometimes!? Let me know what you think!

Thanks as always for your patience and support :)

Food For Pigs Is Not A Person: The Susan Monica Story [Early Premiere]

Comments

Late to the party, might have been commented on by someone else, but I appreciate how you handled Susan’s trans identity in this. You didn’t talk about it until it was relevant, and you let her tell her own story. In a genre (true crime) where queer people are often treated as exceptionally inhuman for committing the same crimes cis people do, this was really great to see.

Marie

I really need to turn notifications on for Patreon because I saw this on YouTube before I saw it here 😭

Emily Tupper

I have to say, as someone who's familiar with the Robert Pickton case but was unfamiliar with this one I did a little double take with the first mention of a Robert being fed to a pig rather than the other way around. Sad story all around, obviously the deaths of Steve and Robert are awful, plus it's always a huge downer when someone is pro eugenics. Excellent video, as always!

Amanda

Good choice of words!

YESwayTED 024

That's intentional - listen to how she says it. It's a little pedantic (or not 100% consistent at least) on my end too, because not every single word is spelled phonetically with how they say it, but just case by case if someone does a clear informal contraction, I'll often spell it like they said it.

Matt Orchard

SUPER pedantic, but "probably" is spelled "probly" at 44:04

Agreed. To eradicate sickle cell anemia in many African countries, you'd need to stop a full 30% of the population from reproducing. The obvious alternative is to fund research for treatments for it. There's been a great deal of progress on that front recently and sickle-cell anemia may soon be a curable illness.

Jason

Are we really espousing the benefits of eugenics here...? Really? The individual choice to reframe from having children because of the possibility of passing on ailments isn't a problem. But any mandated sterilization or euthanasia is bound to become a mess, never mind the inherently racist connotations, invasiveness, and immortality involved. To begin, sickle cell is an ailment that primarily, if not exclusively, affects the black community. So it's been used as a round-about way of white supremacists to say "let's sterilize black people for the "betterment" of the population." Which, as a black person, yikes. Second, it would require extensive testing of to look for recessive genes because even healthy people can carry traits that need another carrier to manifest. That would also make doctors, at best, mandatory reporters of a person's medical history to whatever authorities are meant to be overseeing this. At worst, they may be authorized to schedule or perform procedures on patients without consent on threat of imprisonment. Third, and I can't stress this enough, the one child policy led to a LOT of problems for China that are still being felt to this day. Infant mortality rates and infanticides increased, it was a logistical nightmare, and now they're dealing with the residual effects of a smaller workforce trying to maintain their economic growth. Eugenics is not a good idea. I thought we hashed this over with the Nazis already...

AstarothLuLz

It's really impressive how you managed to make a psychopath talking about utter nonsense for an hour entertaining. Still not one of my favourite cases by any means, but your sarcasm made me laugh out loud multiple times.

Jan Piet

I love it when cops try to dumb down the crime to the suspect. “Well, you and I know that… well… food for uh, pigs isn’t people!” Feels in the same category as when cops try to tell criminals god is gonna be disappointed when they just murdered several people. So fascinating to see. The hell are they teaching these cops

Luck

Justice for Karen

Vincent

Because the Nazis were all about it and you’d have to genetically test and sterilize healthy people who are recessive gene carriers. Who gets to decide what diseases warrant someone losing bodily autonomy? It looks great on paper, but in practice results in war crimes and civil liberty violations.

Also just thinking about this case. I grew up down the road from a family that lived like this. In Susan's case she lived in that environment with other adults who had a choice. The family I lived down from had a daughter who thought it was normal to share her bedroom with a goat. Her bedroom being a half a mattress crammed in a closet. I don't think I was supposed to be allowed in the house but the daughter let me in once when I was younger. I'm super curious to see what she's like now.

Becca Price

His content is brilliant. A buddy of mine in the UK recommended the Darlie episode and I was absolutely hooked. ^__^

Becca Price

read the room monica jee wizz

Joel Dellavalle

Happy birthday!

YESwayTED 024

Hahaha it snowed in kaiapoi on Tuesday..

James Higgins

Probably not even warm yet, too! I feel for ya, bro.

Matt Orchard

Thanks as always Matt. I hope you're keeping well. Christchurch is as boring as ever lol.

James Higgins

Ohh happy to see new people joining! Matt deserves the most; his content is next level!

James Higgins

A lot in this one was shocking, but chief among them was "I WANT MY NUTS BACK!". Great video, weird case

Virginia

I actually feel a bit sorry for Susan if it's any consolation. Don't get me wrong, she's at minimum guilty of two wrongful killings, probably two outright murders - As in, there was almost certainly no self-defense element with Robert, and her final story with Steve is also highly, highly dubious in light of everything. And she desecrated their bodies. She's where she should be. It's just that she's a very strange, obviously isolated person and it makes me feel a bit sad. I'm imagining two arguments got out of hand and she has poor control of her emotions. Mental state was probably deteriorating out there over the years. If I'm wrong and she was running some kind of twisted science experiment on transients then i take that all back obviously. In my current conception of the case though, I think you can have a little sympathy without detracting from her ultimate responsibility at all.

Matt Orchard

i definitely agree there has to be some serious underlying mental illness or delay going on. to begin, no one in their right mind would kill someone, but no one who HAS killed someone would make that first comment she made to police when they were initially searching for Robert. it’s sad because apart of me feels horribly bad for this woman and thinks she deserves help but another part of me is like …… she fed a human to pigs? (still deserving of help but it definitely makes you look at it in a different way). sad case on both ends for sure.

Jess

It is so eerie to hear a local case covered here! You did an A+ job on it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much info consolidated in one place!!

gillygull

i’ve heard of this case before but never all that eugenics stuff!! normally i don’t like it when interrogation footage is shown in videos, but you really cut it down to the essentials and give your insight at key moments, and don’t just leave it playing on and on. so glad i joined your patreon last week :))

theoflora

I agree! Eugenics is so underrated. Why don't more scientists talk about this today? It's such a novel idea

Deanna & Kurt

I've never said this out loud but I agree. How the heck do we still have Fatal Familial Insomnia when it kills 50% of the families? That's one that really creeps me out.

Becca Price

Happy Birthday!

Matt Orchard

Great video and all Matt, but I really think people with diseases such as sickle cell anemia should avoid reproducing. In China, they only permit a limited amount of children and I think that’s a good thing.

Deven Weller

I did the same! Signed up a couple hours ago! :D

Becca Price

I don’t mean this pejoratively but she is a textbook case of autism and it’s fascinating watching her be interrogated with that in mind. All the wacky tangents suddenly make sense.

Sean McAllister

I am so happy I signed up today... ^____^!!!!

Becca Price

Thank you for yet another cracker of a video

Bronwyn Boyd

I wonder if after scarfing down on those dudes, Susan was like "That'll do, pig. That'll do."

Kurt Narten

I've seen videos about this one before but I don't think I've ever seen her face before up close, she looks crazy but I can't put my finger on why, just unnerving to look at. also had never heard her eugenics philosophy so kudos for adding that part in

cool_ranch

I gotta tell you, I was not expecting eugenics talk out of the blue

Shane King

Alright, just finished the video, and my God, Susan Monica is... quite the eccentric person, to say the least. I couldn't believe it when told the detectives that she doesn't value human life, that she would like to kill her neighbor AND the FUCKING DETECTIVE and feed them to her pigs, and that she could easily strangle that cop with long hair, all while being INVESTIGATED FOR MURDER. That shit's beyond wild. And when see tried to sell that Steve shot himself 5 TIMES in the head... it's just, I can't man lol. That reminded me of this one case (I don't remember the name of it) where the suspect tried to tell detectives that the victim stabbed themselves multiple times and died. Just absolutely lunacy. Great video, Matt! Appreciate what you do! 👍

Joe Shea

Lmao @ PETA trying to use this as some kind of learning opportunity 😭

Jeremiah hader

lol

YESwayTED 024

I am SO mad!!! I don’t have time to watch this before I have to take my mom to the doctor (fingers rapping on table, while contemplating choices….) TY!

YESwayTED 024

Great timing! Watching with my mom right now, she’s not familiar with this case

Cronker Waltite

Just finished!! I've seen a few videos on the case, but you always find really interesting moments in the interrogation. Also a nostalgic watch. My mom used to volunteer at that community center when I was a kid. Can't believe they wouldn't take the meat :-(

Lee Basil

God dam my timing impeccable. Bored out of my mind decided decided 2 cave and see if there was any Early access Matt orchard vids and caught it within an hour 🔥Salut

Jeremiah hader

What a great after birthday surprise! Excited to give it a watch Matt!

AndrewAlmond

I know this one alright. I wonder if you kept in... "the accident" in the interrogation room. Some foreshadowing I see. Edit: And there it is. What a hellscape that room must've been. Such an utterly revolting person. From the accident, to the personal hygiene, to the chewing to of course her heinous actions.

corvdb1992 .

Oh I'm SO excited. I grew up near Wimer so I have a soft spot for this horrible horrible story.

Lee Basil

Ahh shit I'm early this time! Let's see what you've cooked up today, Matt! I also don't think I know anything about this case.
