Hail Satan? (Nothing to do with the topic, just mentioned in passing and it's a fun watch)
UPDATE [Full Black Screen Update starts at 50:36]:
Next project is starting to come into shape after a bit of an arduous slog cutting the footage down. I’d guess Sept 20 should be super safe, but it could be quite a bit earlier just depending on how production pans out. I’ve decided not to disclose the subject (Patron Requested btw!) because it’s one of those ones that should be extra enjoyable if you don’t know the case. It’s neither obscure nor huge, so hopefully a good amount of you won’t know it just depending on what other crime channels you follow. If we get to 9/20 and it’s not quite out of the oven I’ll let you know what’s going on, but I think we’re safe.
I’m also toying with the idea of doing the next one after that on the 2024 US Election, but there’s definitely pros and cons with picking up a thing like that. Listen to the black screen update if you want to hear me go into more detail about what I do and don’t like about the notion, but let me know either way if you’re excited or turned off by the prospect of a full video dedicated to US politics.
EDIT: A few people have been saying IF there was a US Election vid, they'd prefer it AFTER the election. Yes! That would be the idea! So next project goes up some time in September, then I'd figure out the parameters of the US election vid, script it as it's still going on and hopefully have it scripted up to Election Night by about the time that happens, wrap the script and go into production.
Seeing more skepticism than enthusiasm for the idea so far, which I'll take on board. Ultimately it will really hedge on if I can come up with an idea that I think actually works.

I'd like to go on that pod again if they'd have me - that was fun!
Haven't sat down to figure out what the next project will be yet. There's an outside chance I'll do a US politics one, or even something '24 related, but I've decided against a full '24 Recap for the next project at least as I've come to realize the chances of a total paradigm shifting event happening in the middle of writing the script are far too high.

I have been following since your appearance on Leighton Night (would love to hear you there again by the way) and would like to make clear that there is no video on your channel I haven’t enjoyed. That being said, I do enjoy the more “out of the box” videos more. By this, I mean the videos that focus less on interrogation footage. I really appreciated seeing the courtroom side of things in several of your videos and I love the documentary-style videos, my favorite being the one on cults.
All this to say that I would welcome the election video. Thanks a bunch for all your content!

Memory Wars is definitely my favorite, with the polygraph episode right on its heels. I send it to people all the time, but they never watch it. 😂 I'm like "seriously, this will really blow your mind" and they promise to watch it but then don't...

Memory Wars is definitely one of your best videos, maybe your best! And as for the political video, I'm all for it. I think you really have a passion for it and it showed with the Edwards and Weiner videos which were both excellent.

I really like this one!! First of all I have PTSD, so my memory isn't necessarily the most functional. Separate from that issue, I have experienced my brain creating a realistic memory from thin air. I know it wasn't real because other people were involved in this "memory" and confirmed it didn't happen... but as I "remembered" it, it felt the same as it would to remember something real. It was kind of shocking and very strange. And on the other hand, I have lived so long in fear that I was forgetting some core, awful thing that would explain my pain from the past. Now I believe two things, that it doesn't matter because the gory details are not the point, and also that I don't have to justify the hurt or the consequences of the things that happened to me in the past. It is what it is and it doesn't have to be the worst thing imaginable to be difficult.

I know plenty of people have said it but I feel compelled to say it myself: the ending of Memory Wars was absolutely amazing. It gave me chills. As for your current video - you’re in the middle of it and you can’t see what an excellent video it will be.

My reply was not clear. What I meant was; the politicians engage in sophestry during their election campaigns. They say one thing, do something else, then continue to court you by virtue signaling, all the while oblivious to their malfeasance. I hope this will help you relate better to my statement. Forgive me for not being clear.

I live in the US and have been desperately trying to avoid anything about the elections. However, you'd surely have a humorous take on the whole thing. I'd watch it.

+1 US presidential election video
much more interested to hear an outsider's perspective (not a US inhabitant or US citizen) and curious to see where it goes while trying to remain unbiased. oops, i mean fair

Huge massive questions about her guilt - I'm convinced she didn't do it and she in no way confessed, has always maintained her innocence. Diary entries which included feelings of guilt (natural in people caring for vulnerable people and suffering from PTSD) were misrepresented as confessions, but she's maintained her innocence at every stage. Just this week a bunch of statistical and medical experts have written to the forthcoming public inquiry and government ministers (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgdxq2l7kvo.amp) into the case to expand the scope of the inquiry to consider the possibility no murders took place! While we don't film our court cases there is a massive amount of content in this case including two or three documentaries so far and another in the works, as well as daily court reporting and someone on YouTube even managed to get the trial transcripts of Lucy Letby's cross examination. Daily reports of the trial are on tattle.life as well. Would be difficult I'm sure with copyright and that but there's more video related stuff on this case than almost any other British one - we've even got some of her police interviews on video as you say, and a bodycam of one of her arrests. Some of the key people related to the case have also given interviews, plenty on TV - there's also a Daily Mail podcast into the case which feature longer form interviews.
I could go on about this for ages, I'm properly deep down the rabbit hole. The personal story of how she came to be accused and the fact that her accusers were used as impartial witnesses for the police to gather evidence (consultants who had been found to have bullied Letby in a tribunal and other nurses have reported were bullies) is captivating, and would make for a really good thematic device you've done before in your videos of the Holtzclaw esque 'on the one hand', 'on the other hand' kinda thing. Idk if you can send voice messages over patreon DMs but it would be easier to reel off the key facts and sources that way rather than typing out an essay 😂 This New Yorker article is excellent and covers most of the key flaws in the case against Letby. Thoroughly recommend it. https://archive.ph/VlHUr
Shoot me a DM if you wanna discuss further, as I said this case is moving fast and there are government ministers reportedly concerned about the safety of the convictions. By the time you finished anything there would be more to report!

hi Matt,
have you considered making a video on the wieambilla shooting? my heart breaks for the victims and their families. perhaps a video respectfully explaining the details of the case would help spread awareness of the incident

The US elections have become such a shit show, it seems an insurmountable task to break it down to one video. So, if you want to do that topic, you'd better get started 🤣 I like the crime stories, as told by you. I've binged everything! Have you heard of Maya Kowalski story? That's an interesting one, I think.

Wait - there's a question about her guilt?? I haven't been following it closely at all. Had gotten the impression in passing that she had confessed in the end. The reason I've never gone deep on it is the UK don't film their trials and rarely release full police interviews. It appears there is a very abridged version of Letby's.

Hey Matt, have you been following all the things coming out in the British media and politics around the Lucy Letby case? Would be a gargantuan effort to do it justice with a video but it's possibly (in my view and many others) and tremendous miscarriage of justice, the biggest in English legal history

I feel like it's way, way too early to make a video about the US president election. We haven't even had it yet. I'd be way more interested in some weird political story from like the 70s or 80s.

I've not finished the video, but on your point about erasing things that happened. I unfortunately had many, many traumatic events in my childhood, and you don't forget that. I now have disassociative and panic disorders so I have gaps in my memory from my teen years, and that phenomenon is "blocking things out" due to the level of stress, you're brain just kind of.. stops storing new information, for me atleast, until we were safe again. All of that is to say, I know and remember what happened to me before that phase, but they were scary and difficult things that children shouldn't know anything about. I didn't have names for that, and I didn't until I started therapy. It wasn't memory recovery or anything like that, it was me explaining xyz, 123 and figuring out what to call it so I could move forward with treatment. If I overreacted or read it wrong due to associations, that is discussed and put to the side. Brains can separate from the body sensations when in such a situation. if you've ever heard "the tree remembers what the axes forgets" it's kind of like that. My body holds these stress reactions until I figure out how to process it in my brain. I don't like "the body remembers what the brain forgot" bc I didn't forget, I was aware then and I always will be. Some things come back like a gut punch when I realize 'oh hey that wasn't normal and I can never look at them the same' but again I never forgot, just realizations. I do not know a lot from my teen years, due to my psyche basically cracking in half, but it's more of a very vague, foggy, distant memory I can't really latch onto than something erased. I've been doing my intensive therapy program for the last 3 years, and if anyone reads this and is curious, feel free to ask questions. It's a weird sensation and very hard to explain but I tried 😅

as some others have pointed out with the 2024 election video, it may be one of those things that might be fun to hear about years later but at the moment it is sort of covered to death (at least in america lol)
cool to hear about the stuff about the split personalities and the like as always tho, happy 2 hear from u :)

What? How? In what way is a European citizen not caring about an election that doesn't directly effect them liken to the worst trauma one can face followed by the abuser openly mocking you?

As someone who loves your videos and dislikes politics, don't make a video on it. You are very good at making interesting videos but even with how wild the past year has been, politics is just mudslinging, and that's not interesting.

Regarding the idea of a US election video, I'll say this: the Year of the Four Emperors is an interesting part of Roman history, but I bet it wouldn't be a super appealing topic to Roman citizens in the year 69.
I don't mean to compare US and Roman politics directly. I'm just saying that if you're living in the middle of ever-present, frightening chaos--one that you have no control over and threatens to massively impact your life--it's not necessarily a topic you'd enjoy a deep dive on.
I'm sure you'd do a great job, but I think it'd be better give it a year or two and if it's still appealing to you, go for it then. I think many of us are currently pretty traumatized by what's going on and we'd need some distance before we could really appreciate what you'd have to say about it.

Even as a US citizen who's politically engaged, I wouldn't be too interested in a video on the election. It's a topic that's so covered to death, especially in the run-up to November, to the point that you can barely escape from it even if you're actively trying to do so. If anything, I would be happy with almost any video topic *except for* the election.

Woke at 7 a.m. CST/US to a notice of this video of "Memory Wars" (of which I am not familiar). So I started reading the comments to familiarize myself if possible. I was surprised to read a chastisement for your covering the US POTUS election. My first reaction was "Shit! I must have missed this video! I must search for it". Then my second (and much more profound) reaction was (and is) "For Christ sake please do much more!". THEE reason I subscribed to your Patreon was because you and your practice are a based, no bullshit, insightful resource; and we in the US are literally drowning in Goebbels-esque propaganda. Everything is slight of hand, misdirection and argle-bargle. The math ain't mathin', Veritas has been replaced by "My truth", shadow-banning is coming out of the shadows, and "Law Wars" is now a thing. All of which are a direct assault on our democracy, of which both sides claim is, to them, sacrosanct - yet another deep fake. Which calls to mind the assassination attempt. I'd like to see you ferret out the truth on that one. A lot smells fishy, but I can't trust which bits the fishy smell is coming from!
