The Case of Darlie Routier [Early Premiere]
Added 2024-04-29 12:16:56 +0000 UTC
Enjoy your early premiere, VIPs! I think it's a goodin. Thanks as always for your patience and support!
It's going to premiering later in the week with a different title and thumbnail - don't go giving away the angle to anyone ;)
If anyone has issues with the player send me a DM, and if you have any questions feel free to drop em below!
Potentially - but no current plans. From what I understand that's another one supposedly in real contention, but turns out to be a no hoper on closer inspection. Gonna follow Darlie up with a grayer one. Could be wrong about McDonald - that's just what I've gathered in passing.

Would you have any interest in covering the Jeffrey Macdonald case? There’s a great podcast about it called morally indefensible.

That was excellent, thanks Matt! Glad to see Werner Herzog’s work referenced. I’ve watched his death row interviews multiple times.

Absolute banger of a video again! I actually took a cursory look into the case before watching to form my own opinion before going in.
The ending was so poignant. I think we all hope beyond hope that people are good, that mothers love their children and would never stab them to death, that there must be another explanation or some boogeyman to blame for all the evil in the world. But all the evidence showed otherwise.
Sometimes people do evil things for no good reason at all.

You are the only “JCS Inspired creator” that actually adds information and perspective on cases. Everyone else just shows already released interrogation footage and says “wow see this they did it.” Great job!

This happened in my hometown and in the neighborhood right next to ours. I've been so interested in this case since I was a child... Thank you for the deep dive into this case. You're the absolute best at what you do!

i was starting to think i was a death touch to patreon creators lmao. this would be the 3rd time a creator dropped off the planet or stopped producing after i started paying . but nope this video is fantastic as always worth the wait.

SO good. Orchard in classic form! Unfathomable that ANYONE thinks this woman isn't guilty as sin. She is precisely where she belongs.

I know the feeling - like no cut from my favorite Director is too long in theory, but at the same time practical decisions need to be made :)

That's all pretty fair. I'd never say no to three hours but I'm not the one putting in the work, lol. I've already listened to the video twice so maybe I just needed to get used to it.

I wonder if he might blame himself for what she did. The "fat pig" remark for instance - just not taking her concerns and cries for help seriously enough and being over bearing. Not saying it's on anyone's head but hers, just what his emotional drivers could be. Then there's protecting his one living son. Can only speculate, it's very odd.

That was a very organic fast forward! I think I was actually talking a bit about it in the last Creator Commentary - I'd written up to the conclusion of the phone call and realized the script was becoming unwieldy. There was nothing I wanted to deduct (I think every inch of that backstory section is important) but there was so much evidence to cover and THEN there had to be a reasonable amount of popular counterpoints to pick apart.
There's a reason it stops at the bread knife - I sincerely believe that's all one should need. We could have piled on for another 30 minutes with blood maps, sink evidence (taps wiped!!), oddly placed vacuum cleaners, spatter analysis, flood lights...but what's the point of making a 3 hour video hammering a conclusion that can pretty much be reached once you understand a knife from within the house obviously cut that fly screen?
Nope - straight to conviction, now lets get to the "fun" part. Wasn't done just as a gag, it was actually to aid pacing and stop the video from becoming too droning and laborious. Much as I enjoyed narrating the investigative skill of Cron and co, there can be too much of a good thing :)

To be honest, I haven't read a lot about the Fen-Phen, but I can't see how the use of any meds would move the needle in light of of the evidence against her. I really can't stress the importance of the fiberglass on the bread knife enough.
With these sorts of cases, supporters can keep throwing shit at a wall and create the illusion that it's a "on one hand/on the other hand" type deal. But that's all it is - an illusion. The key prosecution evidence in this has always remained firm, and the counter punches have reliably fell flat.
Barring some sort of incontrovertible proof of innocence, any claim you hear from Darlie's defense should be assumed to be a lie or half-truth at this point. That's not really close mindedness, just effective time management. They've told too many fibs to be reasonably given the benefit of the doubt.

Another masterpiece, Matt. Amidst a sea of 'JCS-inspired' content, you have uniquely carved out a new genre, approaching each case with fresh eyes almost as if you were the lead detective. Your distinctive insights mixed with witty humor is what sets your channel apart and I can’t wait for the next one

Marvelous Video! I love the false ending in the middle and especially the rewind feature at the end while doing the final narration too. I like the way you’re putting your personality more and evolving more in the videos you make. It wasn’t just a crime video but rather a “work of art”. I really enjoyed watching today. Thanks Matt 🤩

I've always thought this case was a botched murder suicide if not an attempt on insurance fraud. So strange that the husband still supports her after all of this... Maybe he feels guilty for going along with the birthday video? Who knows.

Good video! A minor critique, I think the bit where you stop going over evidence after the first 30 minutes to dunk on Darlie is funny but messes up the pacing. I was interested in the evidence and it made the video feel like it kind of started over.

Spoilers: This changed my mind on the case. I know I'm one of the people who had requested this video as a "wrongful conviction", hoping to get your view. I had found the Darlie camps points about the sock, the window and Barbara Davis' turn around persuasive. Now I wonder if I had actually watched more videos of those folks speaking rather than reading if I would have found it as convincing. The sock timeline and window photos are daming. In fact looking back I'd say the ABC documentary changed my mind the most and contained the worst evidence. Wonderful video my dude

ive been waiting for you to cover this case!! But I'm surprised you didn't mention the supporters' most recent argument about the Fen-Phen medication, which of all the defenses, seems the most compelling of the list. This whole case in any guilty of innocent scenario is so WEIRD. Great vid as usual!! :)

They're clinging onto that reductio ad absurdum for dear life. They're actually just putting forward multiple, individual, reductios and that's it.
Either they're inept or that's really all they have. I cannot explain the dedication though.
