I came from a “nuclear” family (before the divorce lol) which was just my parents, me and my super close little brother. I need to say, if that little boy never talked to me…. Smiled at me… never wanted a relationship with me??! I would be so psychologically damaged as well. I can’t imagine the older half sisters when they were younger, thinking they’re getting a baby brother! And…. He’s dead inside. Nothing. How sad. Not to mention him going on to grow up and murder your parents….. mind blowing.

He may also have come to recognize that there are some fundamental problems in a plan that relies on framing his father for a murder-suicide before dismembering himself. But you're right. Looking at the state of things when the scene was scoped out with a video camera, one is left wondering just what the hell it was he was doing during that time. Maybe stop/starting one thing after another. Partially distracted by the pain, partially just thrown by multiple things not going at all according to the plan simultaneously. Reminds me of that great Mike Tyson quote: "Everyone's got a plan until they get hit."

It isn't just that he left the evil plan behind (which could only have been made worse with the words "My Evil Plan" written on the front of the notebook). And it isn't just that, as Matt points out, the Evil Plan is written with a supervillain's confidence [totally misplaced] in his own methods and capabilities. It is this: after the murders themselves, nearly the entire plan is meant to function as a structured and methodical process for cleaning up and concealing his crimes. But rather than cleaning up the mess, the Evil Plan (to the extent it was even enacted) only propagates it. The mess grows. And grows. And grows. By the end, there appears to be more mess and more blood and more evidence spread throughout the home than virtually any murder scene (planned or otherwise) that I can recall hearing about. I have the strong sense that he spent more time writing down the Evil Plan than he did implementing it before rushing to the hospital to alleviate the pain in his thumb.

You may want guilty parties to be questioned immediately, for some reason I don't understand, but all suspects are allegedly presumed innocent. All suspects have the right to remain silent to avoid incriminating themselves. Darrell Brooks' antics in court have no bearing on my advice. Fortunately, most defendants don't choose to defend themselves. You kind of answered your own question by writing "Speaking with an attorney is sound advice."

Guilty people (those who have hurt others I’ll speaking of specifically) who know they’re guilty often want to go to trial, so they have one last chance to harm the victims/have whatever type of spotlight they can/make frivolous accusations against the victim to drag their names through the mud. They get that chance at trial, or in the form of a plea; That’s their right, no matter the level of antics they put the rest of us through (see Darrell Brooks). Speaking with an attorney before questioning is sound advice, but I’m not interested in guilty people getting to avoid all questioning until the trial, which they view as their Main Performance, while their attorneys run wild with accusations and smear the victim’s name. Dont misunderstand me, I’m all for the constitutional rights for all. Regardless of charge. I just don’t WANT violent criminals staying quiet, I want them talking and talking and talking some more. And ya know, I’d bet there’s no less than 500,000 Americans right now who wish the perpetrator of the violent crime against their loved one would have spoken freely during interrogations… instead, the perps’ silence led to unsolved homicides/violent crime. May the guilty (at least of violent crimes) sweat during interrogation, kick themselves in lockup for running their mouths like buffoons, and get shredded in court before the harshest possible sentencing.

I love how you broke down imagining giving birth to someone like this, hoping for the best, and ending up indirectly purchasing the items that your child used to murder you. So many times we get caught up/distracted in the story without factoring the POV of the victims. Truly heartbreaking.
