This writing is so clever is that the more they explain about Abroad, the more we still don't know. The way Belfry speaks here, the Taint seems to be more spiritual than physical. But, maybe it's not. It could still be something like plague or radiation. Or maybe it's all of the above.

2020-07-03 00:44:41 +0000 UTCHow do you keep them down on the farm after they see the city. Letting some technology seep in is one thing, letting people visit "Abroad" is another. Not letting them come back prevents a technology flood that could swamp their nascent society.
