Thanks Bob! Yes, 5/4 is generally used in Rast though it is lower on the instruments like kanun and tanbur.

Wow, this is beautiful! You're using a drone almost like in Indian music. I bet this works because the Turkish Rast major 3rd is much higher than the Arabic Rast 3rd, so it's pretty close to the natural 5/4.
I also notice that it has a (slightly flat) major 7th when underneath the tonic, but a minor 7th when the melody has not reached the upper tonic yet. That is a lot like the Jewish mode Adonai Malach, which has a major leading tone under the *lower* tonic, but a minor 7th and minor 10th in the upper part of the scale. I love non-repeating modes like that!
