My Alien: Romulus Brief Thoughts!

I will determine in the future if I want to do a reaction to the film for the channel and such, but in the meantime, between time, I figured I'd share my very basic thoughts after seeing the film for the first time last night.

***SPOILER WARNING***

Positives:

-Set Design was stellar.

-Excellent focus on tension.

-Practical effects really shined.

-Story fits in well to the overall universe.

-I enjoyed how they incorporated the black goo.

-Effective jump scares.

-Novel set pieces, especially Facehugger sneak sequence.

-The Hybrid was HAUNTING.

-Solid performances.

-Great new addition to alien life-cycle that remained in theme with original themes.

-Good world building.

Critiques:

-Too many call-backs and homages to other entries.

-The CGI on Rook was awful.

-Felt very run of the mill.

-Xenomorphs seemed less of a focus.

-The Romulus station seemed underutilized.

-Characters needed more room to breathe.

OVERALL: 7.5 out of 10.

Go see it, y'all!

My Alien: Romulus Brief Thoughts!

Comments

Rook was hands down the most egregious part of the film! Looked like a straight up cartoon.

We shall see! I'd like at least one more solo entry in each franchise first, but always down for more AvP!

Nicholas

I actually thought they took a backseat in this one. It felt like the focus was more on the facehuggers this time around. I mean, if you think about it, the Xeno only killed one person.

Yay, this is a pleasant surprise, thank you for sharing your thoughts! Just saw it this past Friday and LOVED it! Fede a FREAK LOL. But also, what you say about the xenomorphs, at least they're more of a focus than the last 2 movies we got, so I was happy and well fed hahaha.

I agree on most of this. After watching it though, I now REALLY want a new Alien vs Predator with Fede and Prey's director Dan making it. I feel like it would go SO hard.

I really liked it, too. I didn't mind the call backs with one exception, Rook. Looking back to Rogue One which came out in 2016, the ability to use CGI to bring actors back to life hasn't approved much. It wasn't worth it. They should have just used a different actor. Overall, I give it an 8.3/10.
