2021-03-23 13:04:38 +0000 UTCASSAULT SHELL by Team Overloaded - This game is 🔥! One of the most DoDonPachi-ish indie shmups ever to shmup. Peter Riley speaks the truth about CosmoDreamer btw. Was my personal GOTY for 2020.

2021-03-19 02:07:53 +0000 UTCSeconded. I think it was in something recent (can't remember as I'm new to The Electric Underground and have been mining through past content at the same time), but Mark mentioned he hadn't played Under Defeat before. Was always one of my favorites on Dreamcast, but I haven't played my copy in years. Curious to see how it holds up.

2021-03-18 05:42:04 +0000 UTCUnder Defeat!! Didn't see it lag tested on the site. Always thought this was one of the most satisfying games to play on an arcade stick.

2021-03-17 04:39:25 +0000 UTCEven if the controls were smoothed out a bit in the remake I had a bit of a learning curve. There's just a lot of stuff you can do/think about at any one time with all the inputs, and that's why it reminds me of a fighting game. The only other thing is the bit of inertia that I usually totally loathe in these kinds of games but even there you can use the shield to cancel movement. Lots of stuff like that to give you control but takes time to perfect and become automatic.

2021-03-17 02:39:48 +0000 UTCCool. I've heard a lot of different things about it over the years, it has its supporters, and a legion of people who think it's terrible or unfairly designed. It did at least do well enough to spawn a series though. I had no idea Cybernator was a part of the same franchise until recently, and the only connection with Konami was them publishing it outside of Japan. I have a tough time thinking of things they only published but didn't develop in that period.

2021-03-16 20:40:38 +0000 UTCFrom what I understand the basic gameplay is pretty much the same with just a few tweaks in the remake. I never actualy played the original but I watched replays and it all looked pretty much the same except for the obvious facelift

2021-03-16 20:33:20 +0000 UTCThat's really interesting, how many of those elements were present in the original? I have Assault Suit Leynos 2 for Saturn on the way, but it's been stuck in customs for 2 weeks :/

2021-03-16 20:00:49 +0000 UTCI'm going to vote for a real oddball that's been slept on. Assault Suit Leynos (PSN/Steam)! It's crazy technical (dash iframes, multi-weapons customization, reload cancels). Demands almost as much stick/button dex as a fighting game but plays like a shmup. Check it out, homie!
