Pill Pod 213 - Derrida: White Mythology II (exclusive)

The central metaphors that explain the value of meaning are coins, the sun and flowers. In this episode we go in on the sun. It's not an easy one but if you look at the attached text it'll make better sense (we read up to sec. IV for this episode).

A big part of the importance of Derrida to me was it helped me to deconstruct after being raised Catholic. Maybe there isn't any utility in observing the hollowness of words in a culture that no longer exists, but the value is in helping to deconstruct those individual identities which are much more resilient and high as hell on inerrant forms and ketamin.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6del%27s_incompleteness_theorems This feels like it has some loose connection to the incompleteness theorem. There's an interesting book by Douglas Hofstadter called I am a Strange Loop that uses the incompleteness theorem to discuss consciousness and self that touches on this. Or Ive totally misunderstood...

Very tough read but also leaves me wanting more Derrida. Kinda feels like he is cutting of the rope without offering a hand. Is there any text where he does offer a hand? A little selfhelp Derrida maybe?

Diego's quick interjection at 36:00 was very interesting. What if metaphors aren't actually metaphors, they only appear to be metaphors because we are stuck in selfhood? Like, if you go back to the mutual coarising, Buddhist emptiness, and you bang the drum of "Emptyness of what? Emptyness of selfsame self" ... then a metaphor like the king is radiant isn't so much of a metaphor? The king is made of all non king elements. The sun is a non king element. Where is the metaphor? Lol and then I got to the empty wine cup example. Perfect. (I'm an Aries, and either I say it weird (air e's) or Pills does (are e's) 😄.
