Marxist Metaphysics - Capital II (video exclusive)

"Here, it is only a particular social relation among people that assumes, for these people themselves, the phantasmagoric form of a relation among things."

that was Feb? Now it’s June… no criticism here either, but did we get to money? or not yet…. or did I miss an episode? Anyway, looks like i am on my own w Marx and money. so … here goes….

If the "first" major abjection/matriphagy, was the human away from nature, the second: money from the human. Both ride tidal waves of mass extinction. The splits are unreal/ideological, so each consecutive split is from God. If we take transhumanism as intrinsic to humanism, perhaps capital can also be isolated in a hermetically sealed matrix? What is the third abjection? Communism? Can communism corrupt capital's pursuit of its own existence? Is it also against nature/humans/god? God's killer will die also, but are they all immortal anyway? What could be the seed of the 4th abjection?

if a shoemaker makes a shoe outside of an exchange market was a shoe made?

I'm really liking this series. Question: how does advertising play into this? Advertising is a commodity unto itself and yet it refers purely to other commodities. Ads promise things that the commodity never really posses (peace, comfort, safety). When you posses the commodity you are attaining the ad as commodity too. So do Ads change the value of the commodity? change belief? then we arrive at Baudrillard's pure sign exchange value. Nothing has value and nobody believes in anything. What happens next?

Thank u for deep dive into value. Don’t know what ur project is going to be, but I see how useful it is to revisit Marx’s analysis of value for the current big Tech AI market valuation among alphabet apple google nividia microsoft tesla meta etc etc that r 50% of SNP ‘s gains thru october. Also the massive investment in AI development is a fraction of its potential VALUATION when some Conglomerate gets to AGI. So, that Marx is laying out the question of the human from the standpoint of an inhuman system (exchange value capitalism and AI) as beginning and ending w the abstraction of human labor into the market and exchange value most effected by the impact on value (as produced by human labor) by technology… and the valuation and goal economically for conglomerates with the development of AI is the elimination of human labor) I think we see in this ‘future’ right before us the logical conclusion of Marx’s analysis and warning. So thank you for giving me a tool (technique vs technology) to think about the hijacking of valuation by the market happening in real time. Hope your family hospitalization situation is healing well. <3

I can’t stress how much I love this series, and how you’re tying it into the light metaphor thing. Some cool memories of reading that thesis you posted back then. I really hope you keep on doing this, some awesome shit here. I’ve already heard it twice and ima do it again. But first focus on your family 🙏

Varoufakis is based, but I disagree with his take that capitalism is over just because middle-man platforms exist now

anacidcommie

How about bringing in Yanis Varoufakis? His views on printed promissory notes aka Money, are maybe oversimplified but interesting.

Oh....and while I'm in waffle mode....I really enjoy the dynamic between the four of you in conversation. Hope tje four of you plan to keep going for the foreseeable 🙂👌

Trading sign theory?! Sounds intriguing

Oh....so do I think lights real, and so abstract ideas, specifically value (in the Marxian and more general social value sense)? Yes....and no. I agree with your idea (at least, as I think I understand it) that the material and the abstract - the enchantment of the material are codependent .....Marx's hierarchy is, as you point out, very 'Great Chain of being' in the Greek and Christian sense....He just asks us to look down to the material and work up towards enlightened social consciousness, rather than looking up to consciousness to lead the way in terms of organising the material. ....there is now so much narrative speculation on quantum observations that it becomes useful to reorder the hierarchies of human sensibilities - perhaps in a loop or sommat. I like the playful little bit of video craft where you played with time perception. 🙂

My toothless brain is slavering all over this juicey word fruit. Would that I had the incisors to cut out, a coherant contribution. Aye me, I'll just drool about quantum physics; capital (money, gift exchange) and language as interchangeable signifiers of human time and space perception. Emergent, embodied consciousness: some things seemingly coming from nothing and nothing seemingly coming from something.... free will attained through awareness that if we ever got outside the cave, we'd be blinded by the light of a timeless void encompassing all conscious possibility - 'life is but a walking shadow/reflection'.....All this, and then the ethical implications....then there's political..... I really like your light analogy. It seems you're on the cusp of a really interesting reading of Marx, by developing his ideas in a metaphysical direction - and one which could add pragmatic value in terms of Political Theory and action.... I'm halfway through Capital and loving it. Bit bored of wheat and spindles, but soooo worth it. Shame he doesn't throw in some fun anecdotes about broad headed braniacs wrestling naked with knots in their foreskin....I've used that gem as a conversation piece more than once 🤣

Bobby Bancroft

What you Pills are trying to explain about the folded nature of concepts like value, color, and previously about ideology aligns closely with Erik’s expertise in Peirce’s triadic sign theory. Since you work with video, using live diagrams might help clarify these folded concepts and avoid misunderstandings that arise from the limits of language.

I've 'heard' that Marx is a foundational text in the realms of economically liberal academia (at least in UK). Along with Adam Smith and Keynes
