dev diary: fixing syrup 2's request system

more syrup 2 updates this week!

ok to explain the screenshot above: please ignore that there are 4 copies of the same quest. it's because i forgot to turn the event off where it gives you the quest so it was just doing it every day.

the important part is, now instead of giving multiple of the same item... you can give an assortment of sweets!!!!! this original quest (for example) needed 3 of the orange gummies. but whenever i playtested, i realized i wasn't doing these quests at all because it's a pain in the ass to gather everything and then make enough of them to turn in. but i was consistently doing the ones that only required one item... because usually you already made the item or at least you have the ingredients available to do it. so changing this should make it more fun and something people want to actually engage with!

to do this, i had to alter my old code... (the commented out bits are how it previously worked)

calculating the quest reward turned into adding up the total value rather than multiplying the item by however many it asked for... right now it's 75% of the cost, which is better than the 50% you get from selling them in the marketplace... but i might change those amounts later. still figuring out how to balance everything since i mostly chose arbitrary amounts to begin with and i feel like you too quickly get to a position where you have so much money you don't need to think about it anymore, which isn't very fun.

ANOTHER THING i changed in relation to quests, is that the category in the alchemy menu will always list the candies for outstanding customer requests, instead of just the story requests

i felt like this category became useless pretty quickly the previous way it was set up, so i'm happy it's a shortcut to candies that'll earn u some money and a cute little story tidbit. the thing i need to fix right now is that they're in random order lol...

other things

as a memo/shopping list update, i drew the default stationery:

i'm not sure about the pencil line as the crossout ui since it stands out a lot, so i might use a different brush... like a fake marker or something, that way it's a bit transparent too... still thinking on this.

i wrote a couple new scenes, and started putting in new items as well... the items are like... omg...... i don't know how many items is going to be too many items. i'm getting to the point where i think it's starting to be too much, but it's fun to unlock them for new areas so i shouldn't just not have them right? idk! i think i'm a little worn out after blasting for a while on this so i started overthinking things and getting nervous about it.

with that said, i think maybe i got syrup 2 out of my system enough to get back to treat stuff. who knows what i'll post next week!!! wahoo!!!!!
