Discussion on the newest video!

I mean there is just so many things we can discuss and I'd love to either answer some questions or engage in some fun discussions with you all.

Before you ask: Yes, there will be a final part 3 to this timeline trilogy. Happy Thanksgiving!

something less relevant greece would probably surrender to italy in this timeline because as metaxas wrote in his diary greece as an coastline country was bound with great britain

Dimitris Prentzas

Worth noting the allies could probably use the nukes diplomatically, if Italy, Spain, Turkey and Portugal are on the ropes, “we will nuke Rome, Istanbul, etc” would be quite persuasive

Hey, thank you for replying! My cam broke so I couldn't record yet but a new one should arrive next week (Christmas time is hell for the postal service I guess). Will send you the link ASAP once its up!

Yeah, that sucks. Would it more reflect Petains' views and goals for society? (I am concerned that the French might actually fight with the Germans in an organised fashion), I also wonder what effect the collaboration French had on the pacific war, or would they just lose Indochina anyway? Also can I ask what is happening with the discord Server? I can't see it, but patreon says I am connected.

I’m sure on some level you know this but you absolutely kindled that same enjoyment for a ton of people. I’ve been watching since before the fallout video and it’s amazing to see millions of people be interested in this niche science fiction offshoot

I have a feeling you're gonna love the final segment of this trilogy, but I have to resist the urge of spoiling some of the points connected to what you're talking about.

AlternateHistoryHub

To be fair, if you are talking about the original POD its not even an order. It's turning 2/9 days of clear skies into something like 6/9 days. The right nudge in the right place and right time flips everything and that is why I love alternate history even after all these years

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out, becoming a patreon and most of all your great feedback! About the Pacific, in neither timeline does the UK focus all that much on Japan. Sure it gets a buff here, but they would never send a dedicated fleet to deal with them. Even AFTER Singapore. The German threat and underestimation of the Japanese are that power. Fully agreed with your comments on the German tech. Send me a link to your reaction when its up :)

This video mostly deals with what was going around with the rest of the world between 1940-1945, so the role of the French resistance would still be a thing to look at in the 3rd video. That being said you are 100% right. The nuke might give the resistance a power up but before AND after the nuke, I imagine that the complete control and hopelessness would mean a far more dystopian French occupation

AlternateHistoryHub

I am wondering what France will do in this timeline. Since I imagine the resistance would be lesser than now than in 1944 OTL and the Petain Regime would be more established.

Hey, thought I'd thank you for the shoutout this way! Will be making a little response video, but can already say I really liked the small changes you made to the scenario. Very much looking forward to video no 3! BTW unless I missed it, you did skip a bit over the whole Pacific theatre. Would love to know more about what happened to Japan in your scenario since well...you know my comment. UK and US fully concentrating on Japan doesn't end well, even if they are distracted as you said. The UK throwing most of its carriers and battleships at Japan together with the US should result in most of the Japanese fleet sunk in 1943 already, not 1944. With US submarines doing what they historically did, Japanese industry and supply lines overseas would collapse in 1944. Remember that US subs sank Japanese shipping in the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan almost unchecked towards the end of historical WW2. There is no way Japan could be a credible threat anymore at this point, so enacting an Allied blockade (which had been discussed as an alternative to Downfall and nuking in fact) becomes viable. Japanese forces overseas likely could and would resist, but this could be left to a few US Marines divisions, the Indian Army and the Chinese Nationalists. Oh, a final suggestion for part 3: Don't overestimate German tech. Jets, high-altitude fighters? Not really necessary since Germany in this timeline never had to fight an uphill air war. On the other side, the UK would field the (also historically) far superior Meteor jet fighter, far better at aerial combat than the Me262 ever was which was really a bomber interceptor. In terms of radar and naval aircraft usage Germany would also massively lag behind since they never faced the British radar in a Battle of Britain or the aircraft carriers. Just food for thought!

I really do find it fascinating how much a single order being changed spirals the timeline. I know it’s literally the foundational tenet of alternate history, but even after all these years it’s nice to see the big subjects aren’t completely tapped out yet

I think one of the things that could be interesting to discuss about this scenario would be about the post-ww2 world. OTL WW2 defined the rest of the century as a bipolar world split between two ideologies. But in this TL no matter who the victor is, it would end in an unipolar world with one hegemonic superpower that could not be challenged (like OTL US during the 90s to 2000s). So I'm really wondering how it would turn either with a world where democracy or fascism are the global norm for ruling and international order. How the UN would be (if it exists), what would be the last pockets of democracy/totalitarianism. And how France would be without De Gaulle to save France's honor and be considered as a nation defeated by both Axis and Allies.

I will make a separate post about suggestions, this is just about this video.

I’d really like to see a possible continuation of an Anglo-Norse union. A few options. - Cnut’s Empire survives - Hardrada is successful in taking England - Saint Margaret of Scotland successfully keeps both Norway and Scotland’s thrones in a personal union. England would become “Northern European” opposed “Western European” and the English Language would fundamentally change also. No 100 YW
