This is an eye-opening video for me. I always believed that the square-grid layout found in many Latin American cities is based on a more recent “city-from-scratch”-approach, comparable to the Brasilia development in the early 20th century. It was quite surprising to me that these plans date back to Spanish and Portuguese colonial times.
