2021-08-17 05:38:30 +0000 UTCWhen watching the RiffTrax take on Kingdom of Spiders (the William Shatner vehicle) there's a scene where the streets are filled with tarantulas and people are running over them with cars. It's obvious it's actual tarantulas and as it turns out that movie paid $5 per tarantula to anyone who would bring them. It changed the environment because so many tarantulas from hundreds of miles away were no longer in their natural environment. It was also so horrible that new laws were written to protect even insects during making a movie.. Anyway, it made me think of the tarantula hawk and the process it does that Mike describes. I thought, man, that's so messed up. I went on Twitter and asked an entomologist if the spider feels the hellish nightmare that we as humans would. He told me that, as far as anyone can tell, insects do not feel pain as we understand it. It's more like "damage = escape". So, no, it's not as bad for the spider as one might think. That being said, how bad must a process be to make you feel bad for a spider!?

Or Mike and Conor don’t read it at all but WE all do and then try to explain to them what happened each week? Or nobody reads the book and we all just guess at would we would have read that week? Trying to think of ways to spice things up…

'Modelland' has shown all of its cards though, so Mike and Conor, comedic wizards though they be, are reduced to being derivations of themselves from previous 'Modelland' eps. God bless them for trying, though.
