2019-11-10 20:09:35 +0000 UTCIn the spirit of Shatlart, are we going with Lumont for these authors? Or perhaps Clarecas?

2019-11-10 15:04:02 +0000 UTCUpdate on eBook availability: Through goodreads, I turned up the following: worldcat dot org slash title slash shadow-dawn slash oclc slash 1031707564 (typed in that overly literal way because apparently links can get censored) That is a list of libraries that have electronic copies available.

2019-11-10 00:00:54 +0000 UTCI have to admit, when I heard it was a book co-written by George Lucas, for a few giddy moments I thought it might be the Star Wars moneygrab, er, sequel, "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," which features some uncomfortably non-canonical Luke and Leia interaction. Oh well, we'll see where this franchise went!

2019-11-09 19:10:31 +0000 UTCThanks to a fantastic used book store I got my copy less than half an hour after listening to the podcast. I spent the extra two bucks to get the hardback. And Mike is right it's fewer than 464 pages in the hardback version. It's 454 pages.

2019-11-09 00:58:49 +0000 UTCI saw Willow in theaters in 1988. The ONLY thing I remember from the movie is Val Kilmer feeding the baby something that would put hair on its chest and Warwick saying, “She’s a girl! She doesn’t need hair on her chest!” Any chance you guys will do a Willow movie reaction post to catch us all up and tide us over while we wait for our books to arrive via media mail?

2019-11-08 22:57:53 +0000 UTCConsidering that book has got a foreword written by Sheriff Joe Arpaio, I imagine it'd read a lot like a politically inverted version of BOB HONEY that somehow is even more incomprehensible and ugly and has far more martial arts fighting.

2019-11-08 19:10:36 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, this will be painful. I'm a huge X-men fan, and by extension a huge Chris Claremont fan. That said, he's not above mockery. He's a relic of the 70's and 80's, his dialogue can be cheesy, his later works (such as his run on Exiles) can be incredibly confusing, and I'm half convinced he has a William Moulton Marston complex of inserting his fetishes into his work.

2019-11-08 18:51:15 +0000 UTCSo, I owned this book when it came out when I was 14 or 15. Huge Willow fan, and was so excited to read a book by Lucas and the X-men guy. Chris Claermont was a legit writer for the comic industry. On the ep, Conor and Mike were wondering about the book, and from what I remember, this was a legit, glossy dust-jacket hardcover fantasy tome, probably cost me $25 bucks. It was a legit book, so I'd expect used copies will be right on par with any other mainstream commercial fiction of the mid 90's. BUT - I never got around to reading it, so here we are 25 years later and I finally get to return to the Willowverse :D

2019-11-08 18:46:55 +0000 UTCI managed to secure the only mass market copy in the nearest used book store. They're correct about the low quality paper. It's not dense text, so I imagine it will be a fairly quick read.

2019-11-08 18:15:22 +0000 UTCMy first experience with Willow was senior year of high school. My English teacher put it on as an example of the heroes journey. I hadn’t heard of it(though I didn’t know many movies at that time). It seemed like there were lots who liked it and were excited to watch it...I didn’t really care for it. But even since high school it’s always seemed like one of those 80’s beloved fantasy movies. As for the “wordy” review, as wordy as Claremont is in the comics, I can only imagine just how wordy he’ll be when he’s given free reign of just the written word with no interspersed panels of art.

2019-11-08 17:42:46 +0000 UTCSo happy you’re doing this book! I actually started reading this many years ago (cuz I’m a big nerd) but never finished. Now I have an excuse to continue!

2019-11-08 17:22:59 +0000 UTCI discovered this book at the height of both my Lucas and Claremont fandom (junior high, before the Star Wars prequels) and I have only vague memories of it. Mostly that it was confusing and slow. Young me was naive enough to think there had to be some gold hidden amongst the crap, because despite bouncing off of it after the first couple of chapters, I actually tried again in high school. The books has not aged like a fine wine after all, and I made it about as far on my second attempt. I guess third times the charm?

2019-11-08 17:06:52 +0000 UTCI've never seen Willow, but my husband just informed me that we'll watch it this weekend because he loves it. I feel like I hear it brought up by friends every once in awhile and have always thought of it as a Princess Bride kind of deal, a cult classic in a way. Maybe I'm in a sweet spot of age range (mid-30s) that the movie has always been on my radar, but I feel like I can hardly go a couple weeks without hearing or seeing something about it. This'll be an interesting read/listen, judging by my husband's love of the movie and the fact that I'm a big George Lucas apologist. Looking forward to it!

2019-11-08 16:23:24 +0000 UTCWow. An ancient tome from all the way back when Val Kilmer was vaguely hot... BTW, that movie would make a great Just the Jokes rifftrax release...just sayin'...

2019-11-08 16:21:08 +0000 UTCI'll have to hunt down the Rene Auberjonois audiobook. I loved him as Odo on Deep Space Nine.

2019-11-08 16:16:01 +0000 UTCWonderful, I just bought the WILLOW Blu-ray w/ digital copy earlier this year, so I can easily give that flick another watch. I enjoyed it quite a bit as a kid, and I know Crow T. Robot was an ardent defender of that film as well. As for the book, I have already ordered a used paperback through Amazon. Boy, we're actually diving into George Lucas' literary output, huh? God help us.
