Episode 34 - A 160 Page Self-Own

Well, here is the new book we all get to read together! We apologize for nothing!! And hey, a bunch of listeners requested this one, so if you want someone to blame we will name names!

But in all seriousness, this should be very fun, and will be a welcome change of pace from the last book, (though a binder of carpet samples would be a welcome change of pace from the last book.)

As we like to do from time to time, you'll have a chance to calibrate your tastes along with both of us, just so you know where we are coming from.

For next time, let's read thru "Chapter" five, page 45.

I forget the context, but I think we were talking about 90s GODZILLA

372 Pages We'll Never Get Back

I'm about to start chapter 5. I want names named. This is not a good thing.

Travis Lynn

So what was the Rifftrax Live event that was requested by fans and met with crickets? I go to all of them and was unaware that any were viewed as less than awesome.

Aaron Price

I'm suggesting "vomit-inducing sentence of the week" for this book specifically.

amolove

I’ve never wanted to stab a book before. So, there’s that...

Jennifer Tomich

Try your library, mine had the ebook and print version.

Emily Brown

I just can't do it. I can't pay 12 bucks for a Kindle version. I'm just going to listen along. It sounds like it won't make any less sense than reading it.

RotoLando

Your callback to the usage of the word slut, in The Eye Of Argon, reminded me that back during that podcast I looked up the etymology of the word slut and it did indeed start off being applied to men.

Shawn Furniss

Wiki: "A portion of the novel was first published as a free Audible book, listing Pappy Pariah as the author and Penn as just the narrator of the audio book." I found the audio and compared it to the text. THAT bit has definitely been through an editor. I'd even say, the text was almost comprehensible. Alas, those miraculous changes didn't make it to the final version. LIFE HACK: you can enhance your experience by listening to the audio piece and reading the raw, unedited Sean Penn simultaneously.

Natalia Mclean

is it just me or is this book...even harder to read than 64-SQUARES was?

Carson Heschle

I blew through the reading assignment already. To call it a book is to mock literature, and to call it a fever dream is to insult fevers. I believe the best word to define "Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff" is 'emission.' It is an emission of words.

Theodore Lehman

Sorry, for pepper: Peugeot Paris U Select 12" Pepper Mill. I was thinking about the coffee grinder discussion in the post above :)

Peter L

This is the first book I'm reading along to (started listening to the podcast after finishing Ready Player One and needing... some context, or something). All I can say, four chapters in, is: "What have I done?" Also, Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder.

Peter L

Seriously looking into this: <a href="https://www.rubberstamps.net/name-stamps.aspx" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.rubberstamps.net/name-stamps.aspx</a>

I had that reaction to "Armada", which is the only 372 book I haven't read.

Conor's going to need a big rubber "Settle Down" stamp that he can just slam down on every page.

Theodore Lehman

Well, I bought Tekwar, I bought 64 Squares, but I don't know if I can pay money for this one on general principle.

SabreMau

I already have a kick (round eyes, goose bumps and all), and I am only on "Contents" page. And read 6 lines. Not sure if excited or scared.

Whoa! Scare quotes around "chapter" and "book"?! I'm now terrified (no scare quotes) - mjn

372 Pages We'll Never Get Back

After reading the first two “chapters” of this “book”, I can now honestly say that Dwight David Thrash is not the worst author I’ve ever read.

Josh Mueller

I was SURE that Mike was going to end his "I have assorted jars of honeys" with "from a variety of unusual insects."

Moviegique

This will be my first time reading along, can’t wait!

Jeremy Jablonski

Bukowski, no thanks.

Emily Brown

Maybe I am wrong and it was: Marge Simpson: Deportation? You mean kick Bart out of the country? Homer Simpson: Hear him out, Marge.

Erika Flowers

To paraphrase Homer (can’t find the quote): “let’s see where he’s going with this.” With regards to an obvious disaster.

Erika Flowers

"Pappy Pariah"? I hope Poopdeck sued him, won a ton of money and dished it out to Popeye's VERY deserving nephews Pipeye, Peepeye, Poopeye and Pupeye.

372 Pages We'll Never Get Back

From Wikipedia plot summary: "With no formal plot..." Oh boy.

Luke Bovard

I like Sarah Silverman a lot, but goddamn, that book quote gave me the douche chills...and coincidentally, Sean Penn does as well. This should be a lot of fun, guys!

Jesse Shade

Did you guys catch that Penn originally wrote this under the pen (ehem) name: "Pappy Pariah"? <a href="http://www.salamancapress.com/how-sean-penn-created-pappy-pariah/youtube_a5509e78-0f05-5d38-8182-0d4eaae26e7b.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.salamancapress.com/how-sean-penn-created-pappy-pariah/youtube_a5509e78-0f05-5d38-8182-0d4eaae26e7b.html</a>

M Williams

Aw, man, I knew I should've delayed going into work an hour.
