Patreon Bonus: TekWar The Movie!

Well, we watched TekWar The Movie and it did not disappoint (unless you were hoping for a sweet Globo Nude Scene...)

It's extremely interesting to see what made the cut, what didn't and what inexplicably got altered. Sombrero wearing robots? GONE! Plump Sonny Hokori? GONE! Sub-Lawnmower Man VR effects? PRESENT IN ABUNDANCE!

Plus there is no plas, which is sort of like adapting The Hobbit but leaving out all the hobbits. All this plus a song from Warren Zevon's "Contractual Obligation" period.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/yk8GrGl7_yg

Well, we didn't make it thru more than one TekWar movie ourselves, so more power to you! Thank you for your support, we have a blast making these and hearing from everyone who trudges through them with us!

Been binge watching Tek War movies on youtube....entertaining, but definitely not focusing solely on the movie. It's fun as background noise; I don't know how you guys do it. I would get so bored!! Thanks for your suffering, and I'm still not going to read the books you do because I am a book snob. Your podcasts are worth my monies without sharing the awfulness of actually reading the books.

I love that they didn't trust their audience to subtract 11 from 15 in the scene where Jake gets thawed out.

Scot Hill

Did anyone else catch that the actor who plasy Dr. Kittridge is "the Freeze" technician from Space Mutiny? AKA "I was about to do the Monster Mash"

Paul J Edwards

This is the only thing I could think of with "The Wiz" https://youtu.be/CjQKFoUdk4g

The only point of reference I have for the "My baby takes the morning train" song isn't Seinfeld, but another classic TV moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEoWMnvn9CE

After hearing the podcast, I had to check out the hockey droid/mech/android/derma-sheath encounter with Jake and Beth, and even with the allowance for hyperbole given to Mike in saying it was, "the stupidest thing I've ever seen," and knowing Mike has seen some incredibly stupid things in cinema, this was still one of the most baffling and hilarious scenes ever created, without or especially with context from the book. A woman of average build is able to upright grapple with a cyborg on a sheet of ice, a cyborg who previously just smashed his servo-loaded arm though a sheet of plexi(plas?)-glass (PlasPlas?), which easily has 100kg of hardened steel on her and could probably twist her into marmalade at a moments notice, and that's not even the most ridiculous part about it. Once Cardigan hit the magic explode button on the LazPistol and the robot's head flew into the net, I laughed for about five minutes. I have no idea how the legal and copyright end of the business works for RiffTrax, but I would absolutely pay upwards of ten dollars for this LandVan of a movie to be riffed.

(Mike sez!) Look, I'm ashamed of my lack of knowledge re Megaman, okay?! There's no reason to shine a light on it. My parents hoped and wished for a better life for me, re Megaman, but unfortunately we just couldn't afford the game console, ok?! (BTW, what was the game console?)

Mike made fun of my Mega Man "Hockeyman" comment, but check out this pic of Scrooge fighting one of the TekWar Movie hockey robots in the Duck Tales NES game: https://i.imgur.com/xldQm29.png

Sorry guys. But Globo is a no show in any of the TV movies or the series. But the Cyber-jockeys return several times. Well, Cowgirl does with her new partner Spaz. The Tek Lab movie is worth watching. It features Michael York, British politics, class warfare and a bunch of future people dressed as Arthurian knights. There's also the actual sword Excalibur, which everyone just accepts is a thing that exists and no one comments on it.

Nick Donald

Winger was meant to be a chrome android, sort of like Robert Patrick's T1000 in "Terminator 2". Sadly, the renderfarm needed to create those graphics in 1994 were all being used to create the hilarious and expressive computer generated imagery in Jim Carrey's "The Mask." To think, Jim Carrey prevented us from seeing the Silver Surfer version of Winger.

Erika Flowers

I'm about halfway through Tek War (TV Series) and no sign of Globo yet.

For "Flower Girl", think less "wedding" and more "Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady". Shatlart is pretty old, guys, and I think their cliche buckets were filled pre-WWII. Also, accidentally relevant: We now have bomb-sniffing dogs. Predicted by Tekwar?

Moviegique

And the actor who plays Winger is awesome in the horror/sci fi movie Cube. He was also on the 80's action figure advertisement show Captain Power, along with Winterguild who was the main villain.

Aaron Price

The weirdest thing about the flower girl is that she was inexplicably played by a boy! I was watching this really late at night and I thought I was seeing things until I looked it up on IMDB.

Aaron Price

Completely robbed of a sound design oscar for the noises the hockey robot makes

Ready Player One up for an Oscar, but we all remember the 1995 snub of TekWar: The Movie. Not a single nomination. Guess there was no Jay T. Rikosh special Plascademy Award for excellence.
