Victor is selfish and he is used to do everything by himself. He doesn't rely on anyone and prefers to control everything on his own
Silvia is just a proud person who always tries to be the best in everything. At the same time she is a bit ironic, that's why her motto is kind of a joke. She changes the original Russian proverb: "Born to crawl will never fly". It means something close to English "If God meant us fly he'd given us wings"
