NEW Mod "Literally a Door Portal"

Sometimes for unrelated reasons, I stumble across something in the game code that sparks a thought, "Could I do that?!? Would it work?"

I didn't think this was going to work, if I'm being honest. But I'm pretty sure it did, or I nodded off and this is a very lucid dream.

I've added a new mod to my website called "Literally a Door Portal."

It's a new door called Portal Door Plain and as the name suggests, it is literally a portal. If you place two or more of them, you can effectively use them as shortcuts to get around a lot faster. This will be done automatically by sims, whether they are moving autonomously or you told them where to go on the lot.

I've written up some examples on the mod page, so it's clear what I mean. You can find it here:

I hope you enjoy this weird little side project. I know I'm going to enjoy making multi-story homes that don't need stairs.

Probably the direction they are facing. I just noticed that today myself. I will add in a note in the description of it on the website when I get some time. The arrow should be pointing in the direction they would travel in to enter the area through the portal, if that makes sense? It's kind of hard to describe.

Hm, I have a problem: I've placed two of this doors and my sims did nothing. Only complains that she can't go inside her house. What I'm doing wrong?

Ah, great, thank you!

Almost. I do plan to add more door variation options at some point myself, just a question of figuring out what to prioritize, as there are quite a few different doors to copy from. :) There are a couple things to keep in mind if you use the tuning ID to add more door variations yourself. This is assuming you are working from a copy of a door using Sims 4 Studio and Object > Selective Clone: 1) You also need the correct tag added under Object Catalog. It's called Func_PathObstacleJungle_06_entrance 2) You have to add the tuning ID and tag under each Object Definition / Object Catalog pairing if there is more than one swatch for the door. If there's a faster way to set this up in Sims 4 Studio, I'm not aware of it. I know tags can have "apply to all swatches" used in the Studio > Tags tab, but this particular tag doesn't show up in that window so I'm not sure if it would work (probably because it's considered a unique tag or something). So the process may be a bit boring and repetitive if the door has a lot of swatches. It's pretty simple though, as far as modding goes.

Very neat, thank you! I am wondering, can I just add your tuning ID to any door in the game in S4S and make it work like that?
