NEW Thinking Skill Mod
Added 2018-11-01 15:09:49 +0000 UTCAs someone who chronically overthinks everything, thinking is near and dear to me. I even overthought how to write this blog post.
The Sims 4 doesn't have thinking though. Toddlers think, Child Sims go Mental... er, I mean, have Mental. And Teens and Adults have... Logic? It always seemed like a gaping hole was there. Thinking isn't just Logic. It's also taking long walks while you scour your very soul; spending inordinate amounts of time staring at walls seemingly doing nothing while daydreams play out in your head; spending inordinate amounts of time staring at walls seemingly doing nothing because you are, in fact, doing nothing.
About two years ago, I had this thought and put together a detailed proposal for a Thinking Skill. I shared it too; it's probably still buried somewhere in the deep recesses of the TS4 ideas forum.
As I learned how to mod bits and pieces of the game, I started working on a Thinking Skill mod, but it got pushed aside. Other projects took priority. Teen Traits, Child Traits, and of course the most runaway, time-eating project of all, the Sorcerer mod. By the time I came to an end of putting so much time into modding, the Thinking Skill wasn't even a whisper in my ear anymore.
Fast-forward to some unspecified time that is more recent and I found myself looking at the old design proposal for it. I thought, "Hey, maybe I could make it and make it quickly too." It became a challenge in my head. I found some time to work on it and went at it with an obsession.
As with all projects where the creator is arrogant enough to imagine they can estimate how long it will take, it took longer than I thought it would. But I got it done.
I put together a Thinking Skill, levels 1 to 10. Bam. It's all working. And I made a simple little Philosopher Trait to go with it too.
Then I looked over it and thought, "Meh." It seemed too directionless and pointless. Too many interactions staring at nothing for little to no purpose whatsoever. What's the end game? I asked. What could I do to make this better? What is that thing they put into lamps that make them bask a room in a warm glow?
Lightbulb. I decided to make an Aspiration to go with the Thinking Skill, which turned into two Aspirations.
And thus, the Overthinker and Visionary Aspirations were born.
When I finished those, I said to myself, "Enough is enough. Just release it before this gets out of hand!" And so I am releasing it now, before it gets out of hand.
One Thinking Skill, one Philosopher Trait, and two Aspirations, Overthinker and Visionary.
I hope you enjoy it. I will be overthinking the whole process in the meantime.

Thank you SO much for this!!! I am totally going to add this skill and one of the aspirations to my Étienne... His current aspiration doesn't fit him nearly as well as your latest ones!!!

2018-11-02 00:00:18 +0000 UTCJust gave it a read. This looks amazing. I can really see how much time and work you put into it from the post on your site. I look forward to adding this to my game and the gameplay it will provide.
