Are you ready to be hit over the head with a super detailed sketch?
I've been working on this one for about a week now, so I really hope you like it! It's a continuation of the underwater series I started in summer, and it includes the gigantic jellyfish I introduced in another painting.
For this one, I had the idea to paint an underwater market, like the one in the book "The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea" (which was inspired by Spirited Away). I didn't really connect with the story and writing in the book, but I loved the worldbuilding. Physically, this whole scene is not very plausible, but I just wanted it to look pretty! The next step is colour. I'm trying to finish this to send it out along with the October rewards, but it might take a bit longer.
In other news: I signed up for Justin Donaldson's gouache course, FINALLY. I bought some new brushes, dusted off my Nicker Poster Colors and I'm ready to learn and play!
I've been wanting to get into traditional media for a long time, and the whole AI thing and how people seem to think that digital art can be created with just one click gave me the push I needed. I still love digital art, but the prospect of creating original pieces using pigment on paper is very appealing right now. I just love the textures and happy accidents that you get. Because for me, a substantial amount of time and effort goes into mimicking a traditional look in my digital paintings.
