More about the art theft issue
Added 2017-12-21 19:33:02 +0000 UTCIn my previous post I talked about a site that is stealing (paid) content from creators and publishes it openly. Fuck them, I'm still so angry and disgusted.
It's not even so much about my content being stolen. I use Patreon to share things that aren't meant for a larger audience. Not just rewards, but thoughts and feelings. So I suddenly feel violated and unsafe.
In a thread they even talked about "scraping direct messages for links" to get to the rewards. I feel sick just thinking about how someone is invading my privacy like that. If they're able to go through with it, it seems to be a bigger security issue than I thought. I contacted Patreon about it to see if they can do anything.
If you have any suggestions on how to handle this issue, please let me know. :/

Hey, I made a post with detailed info on this process as it was sent to me by Patreon's support staff: https://www.reddit.com/r/patreon/comments/7l6ftq/patreons_official_response_email_regarding_the/

2017-12-26 17:53:31 +0000 UTCThanks so much for the links! Awesome that Ryan Estrada is doing so well fighting them. I honestly feel a bit helpless, because I don't evemn know which country/authorities are responsible in this situation.

2017-12-26 17:41:22 +0000 UTCI'm not entirely sure how it works, but I think it may have still been old Patrons who took the older feeds? I was examining the site last night, and for certain creators for whom they are missing certain tiers, they put a notice out to the community saying to "help us out if you are supporting the creator." Here's a screenshot from the site: https://tinyurl.com/y7bxvaa2 I'm not sure what legal recourse looks like in this situation, but someone I was speaking with last night suggested filing a complaint with the IRS, Federal Trade Commission, and/or the Better Business Bureau (about yiff and/or about Patreon for doing nothing, as yiff has apparently been doing this for years). You might also reach out to Ryan Estrada, a cartoonist who is already hard at work fighting yiff on the PayPal front (he just got some of their accounts shut down this week). https://twitter.com/ryanestrada
