I know it's funny or cheap to use this as a point, but Mihawk and Crocodile could have killed him, like actually, but he spoke his peace almost ready to die. It's like what Luffy told Nami that it's wasn't resolve to kill. He says, "The resolve to put your life on the line!" And Luffy said when referencing Buggy, saying "that's what you [Nami] get for facing pirates with half-assed resolve!"

People assume that Conq haki is something only available to those of strength but it's been stated time and time again that Conq haki is actually a manifestation of strong will and desire coupled with being one who is worthy of being a king. Buggy has the absolute adoration of a large bulk of his crew, a crew that design everything around Buggy, completely ignoring Mihawk and Croc, two individuals far more powerful and threatening than him. This chapter he exclaims his desire to be "King of the Pirates" and lets that will out in jeopardy of his own safety knowing full well that Mihawk and Croc will remove him if he causes problems. Buggy this chapter both cemented himself as the true leader of Cross Guild, shown his will and desire to be the best and made the men underneath his banner further their desires to follow him. He has completed every requisite to become a user of the most powerful haki, he just needs to either subconsciously use it or recognise it's manifestation and maybe all he needs is a nudge, a nudge that theoretically could manifest in the death of his closest friend Shanks, the man he viewed to be the next king of the pirates as well as the man who robbed him of his own dream.

May be that’s actually a sense of foreshadowing that they will. I guess all 4 yonko will get there and scramble for the one piece. That’s why Kidd and law have been kicked out of the race they’re just not strong enough and have no allies. So I guess there is where Zoro and Mihawk will fight too

Oda said Shanks blade is called griffon named after fat family guy characters. Conquerors I'll give to Shanks but as seen by zoro its oonly used in the form of a blade, to enhance it meaning it helps 'swordsmanship' which mihawk is superior in. Unless you count knocking people out or freezing them which took greenbull out of his devil fruit transformation. Mihawk as of no doesnt have one and isnt wetting his pants ovoer shanks glaring. Shanks has 1 arm even i could give him a good fight. In sbs it says Mihawk is looking for an opponent who suurpasses his old grey haired rival shanks. So why not just fight Shanks then? Maybe because Mihawk can smell his weak soggy haki. As of now, Mihawk is literally the current strongest alive in one piece. Maybe dragon but he is featless. Now dont even compare bb or luffy tot mihawk lol theyre not ready 'YET'

Everyone else in the room is stronger then him physically, but it's clear he's the strongest one mentally. We've seen glimpses of this already before, but now it's finally clear to see why he was part of Roger's crew. He's a man of that caliber. I think he's just as deserving of the One Piece as Luffy.
