Videos for April 24th - 30th

Here's what's coming up in terms of videos for the rest of April!

25th: ASUS Zephyrus M16 Review (13900H + RTX 4070)

28th: RTX 4050 vs RTX 3060 Laptop Comparison (140W)

I've started work on the Ryzen 9 7945HX vs Intel i9-13980HX comparison today. It's probably at least 2 weeks away though as there's an enormous amount of work to get through, I want to make it a really good one.

In the past I've done two separate videos for gaming and non-gaming benchmarks, but might just combine them into one video to reduce confusion. Only problem is it might be a little long as there are just so many different tests, and the stats usually show that most people don't hang around for too long.

I've got the ASUS Scar 17 (7945HX) and ASUS Scar 18 (13980HX). For some reason the Scar 18 came to me with a 280W power brick instead of the 330W that it came with when I originally had it to review. It actually stopped charging as I guess the charger tripped in a CPU+GPU stress test.

Fortunately I can just use the 330W charger from the 17 on the 18, but it means one laptop at a time instead of being able to test two at once, so that's going to slow things down too. I've asked ASUS if we can get the 330W, as I doubt they'll want to send it to other people with 280W if that doesn't give people full performance, waiting to hear back.

For whatever reason, the Scar 18 is still limited to DDR5-4800 rather than 5600 which the i9 should be capable of. It is what it is, ASUS reasons I guess, so I'm using the same 4800 kit in both laptops.

I've almost done the Cinebench power scaling on both CPUs, but it's taken most of the day doing one at a time, 5 minute test at 5W increments. While that's been going I've started making the graphs for the big RTX 4050/4060/4070 power scaling video, to find out if its actually worth buying a high wattage GPU, as it looks like performance drops off around 100W. Spoiler, it's not worth getting about 100W or even 90W in some cases if it's just for gaming, the results are the same.

This is going to be a big video, hopefully for late next week. Well, the video itself probably won't be that long, but it took a lot of time to get all the testing done.

Other than that, my partner has started work on the XMG Neo 16 with RTX 4090 in 25 games at 4K, 1440p & 1080p, so that we've got fresh data on the same chassis for 4080 vs 4090 comparison, but that's even further down the road.

The Radeon 7900 XT and 7900 XTX arrived today from AMD, and MSI's RTX 4070/4070 Ti cards should arrive tomorrow or the day after. So 4 more GPUs to do 25 games x3 resolutions, just so I have data for my mega laptop vs desktop GPU comparison in a few months time.

Big post, but I guess there's lots happening!
