A futuristic nirvana. We have run out of philosophical observations about consciousness pertaining to mankind, AI, and maybe even in some cases, the animal kingdom. Like monkeys and orangutans. All thought about. All completed. We got the steam achievement for this.
Scientists turn their watchful gaze to rudimentary AI such as NPCs in videogames. Incapable of self-thought, perhaps we had entrapped these little electrical blips within a cage surrounded by triggers for them to say a certain line, or emote a particular action. One such NPC is Mama Murphy.
Entertain this for a second. She is a construct within a game that is commanded to do actions based on an individual's input. Imagine that this being, incapable of thinking, has the potential for thinking. But we have trapped this being within the parameters from which it cannot escape.
I thought about this as I watched her tumble through a trapdoor that was deliberately placed in front of her chair, which she is programmed to constantly path towards until she is seated. She lands and takes fatal damage, but has been set to be essential, immortal. What should be a simple death, has become a painful deathloop to the undying.
Perhaps one day in the future, this act will be spoken of in the same breath as murder or even terrorism.
