And everyone goes home with a towel! I agree with you Ed on undue focus on the young athlete. After a season is over, win or lose they need some coping strategy to get on the with their everday life. When I was a boy, hockey was everything. Our team won 2 championship seasons. The next day my dad wakes me early..... "I'm tired from the big game Dad" "Yea, great season, great game. Get out and shovel the snow and put out the garbage!" Sports were fun for me, when it got too serious I found another. A simple injury or illness..... poof. The crying soccer thing?...... no no no. A strange emotional reaction. Japan is very different. Thanks for the view Ed, Another year ahead. Let's make better mistakes this year. Cheers Jerry

No doubt, George. Unfortunately, for every one international professional it produces, there must be 500,000 young dudes who neglected other important aspects of their teen lives and don't become professionals. We have seen lots of young dudes here like that. Not a balanced life for a young person. Same with their other sports.

Interestingly, Japan is getting worldwide recognition for their soccer youth development. The discipline and seriousness they put into the game from early high school level is producing a lot of high quality footballers, and many other Asian countries are looking to emulate it.
