2022-12-26 21:33:08 +0000 UTCYeah.. they have no idea, Brian. Some foreigners in Japan try to recreate an "authentic" Christmas here... but it seems like a waste of time. The atmosphere comes from being surrounded by people who share the same perception of what it is about.. cant be done here. I am OK with that, their New Year's Day with family is actually similar to a Chistmas day feel. Anyway, ho ho ho to you, mate!

2022-12-24 12:37:32 +0000 UTCAs much as I enjoy Japanese culture, and learning about & doing things the Japanese way when I visit, there's something about the Japanese celebration of Christmas that makes me kind of purse my lips, and squint my eyes, and make grumpy old man sounds. I'd love to get my friends over here, and treat them to the marvelous Christmas concerts throughout the month of December held in the magnificent cathedrals in my city, and help them to understand what even a secular Christmas is about: Family and friends, and "Peace on Earth, Good Will T'ward Men"; about charity, and faith in Humanity, and about being a better person. Ah, well... Japan and the West will always be different, and that's why we enjoy them so much. A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU, AND YOURS, ED! Peace. -Brian Mack.
