While I recognize, that Japan has been like this before COVID and will probably continue so after it too, coronavirus has completely changed people's perception to "just having a cold". I personally try to currently stay away from people I know have been in big groups as much as possible because of this. Will people revert back to old thinking after the disease becomes irrelevant? I have no idea.
Back to Japan - there is a silver lining for the people who get upset about this. You see, if YOU catch a cold one day, you get to have a short vacation while you recover! That way you can get payback for all the other times you have had to do more because someone else caught a cold! And it's even the accepted thing to do culturally!
You wouldn't have these issues in the first place though, if you were exposed to the germs as a kid. A strong immune system means that you'll catch minor illnesses less often. Japanese people are infamous for their fear of diseases, and that may be one of their biggest weakness. There have been studies about this if I remember correctly, but the society rejects the information for some reason. "We have always stayed home after catching a cold, and we'll keep doing it because everyone else is doing it!". Or something like that.
Thanks for another interesting video!

Japanese: "Sorry, I can't marry you this weekend. I caught a cold". Aussies: "Been down with the flu all week, but sure, I'll be there for the shark wrestling tournament this weekend! Can't let the team down!" Unless they're dead, the Aussies will always show up - lol!
