Japanese Shrine & Cherry Blossoms

Well summed up, Brian

'Was waiting for this video. A Canadian autumn is wonderful. A forest can provide a whole palette of colours, and can make for incredible sightseeing. Kids play in the fallen leaves, (there's hardly a red-blooded Canuck who hasn't enjoyed a good leaf fight from time to time) and there is a crispness in the air that hints at the coming winter. Canadians are proud of their autumn woods. But somehow Canadian leaves just don't seem to hold the cultural importance, and romanticism of the Japanese cherry blossom. The leaf is the very symbol of our country, but still I don't see the average Canadian celebrating it as the Japanese do their sakura. I get a sense that their long-awaited arrival is joyous to locals in a way that the turning of the autumn leaves is not, and their departure brings on a sense of melancholy, and nostalgia. I've been to Japan but never during hanami. One day...
