Chapter  26 - I want to go too!!

I let everyone out of the room, one by one like when we came in.

Once we were all outside, I deactivated the barrier.

I planned to take the day off: I then turned to Misha first.

“What are your plans for today? Is there anything you want to do, or some place you want to go?”

“I don’t need another day off. I went around town yesterday, but I didn’t find anything I wanted to buy or do. I’d rather go back to ALA and train.”

Misha had apparently entered into a kind of automatic training mode.

I knew where she was coming from, though. There’s plenty of troublesome stuff in town, and you always have to be careful how you speak and act. Building things as I pleased in ALA would be much more relaxing.

I wanted to build Zizi and Pipi’s living space too: there was not even a room for them at the moment.

“Okay then, let’s go back to ALA for today.”

Just as our plans were decided, a maid came to let us know breakfast was ready.

Zizi opened the door and said we would go soon: the maid, on the other hand, looked totally surprised.

Haha! Naturally! The visual impact of these two bunny ear sisters is not to be underestimated!

Thrilled by the prospect of showing them off to the rest of the house, I headed down to the dining room.

There, I saw the maid that came to call us talking to Dorothea.

“Good morning!!”

We all spoke at the same time. Dorothea and the maids, however, simply stared at Zizi and Pipi.

They’re so taken by their outfits that they forgot to greet us back!?

I didn’t know my fashion sense could be so amazing: I couldn’t help but grin.

We sat at the table, and Dorothea finally opened her mouth to speak.

“T-Tenma…when did you call Zizi and Pipi to your room…?”

“Just a bit earlier today.”

For some reason, Dorothea looked relieved.

The veteran maid whispered something in her ear, and Dorothea started fretting again.

“W-When did you make them change!?”

“Er, I gave them the clothes when they came into my room, and they changed then…”

“T-They changed in the room with you? With you looking?”

Okay, this is not going in a good direction…

I hurriedly denied.

“....I-I didn’t look at them changing!!”

It was the truth, but I also felt kind of sad to say it, so I stuttered a bit.

“S-Sir Tenma…d-didn’t look while we changed…”

Zizi, you’re making me sound more suspicious…

“Tenma was playing with Sil.”

Misha!! You’re being useful, for the first time ever!!

“No problem, then!”

Dorothea seemed convinced, unlike the older maid, who still eyed me with suspicion.

In order to freshen the air, I tried changing the topic.

“More importantly, can we discuss our plans for today? Our business in town is done, so we’re thinking of going back to our base of operations. I’d like to ask if we could leave Zizi and Pipi here for about ten days, until we finish making preparations to welcome them…”

Dorothea looked thoroughly dissatisfied.

“Weren’t you going to stay in town one more day? There is no problem in keeping Zizi and Pipi here, we already discussed it after all…but you can stay a little longer too, can you not?”

I was grateful for the offer, but I wanted to build Zizi and Pipi’s house soon.

I tried making an alternative proposal.

“I want to go back soon, so I can start making preparations to welcome Zizi and Pipi. But before that, I want to express my gratitude for all your help. You let us stay over yesterday, and you’re going to take care of them for ten whole days, after all. How about I cook you all a guinea fowl lunch today? We could make it as a kind of welcome party for Zizi and Pipi too.”

Dorothea’s eyes started sparkling.

“Oh dear! A guinea fowl—”

Zizi, however, interrupted before she could finish.

“Sir Tenma! We want to go with you! Family has to stay together always!”

Zizi looked completely serious, as tears welled in her eyes.

“Zizi and Pipi can come too. They can sleep with me at night. There’s no danger anyway!”

Misha, that’s a bit irresponsible…was my first thought, but she had a point. I thought I could welcome them to ALA when everything was ready, but it’s not like they were going to sleep on the floor.

I thought for a while, then nodded.

“Okay, sure! Let’s all go back to our base!”

Zizi was thrilled, as shown by the flickering of her bunny ears.

Hahaha! They do move according to her emotions!

Dorothea, however, hurriedly interjected.

“W-Wait, young ones! I can allow Zizi to go, but Pipi? Your base is in the forest, it’s too dangerous!!”

“There’s nothing to worry about. Our base has many secrets, but I can assure you that it is completely safe.”

The word “secret” clearly sparked Dorothea’s interest.

“M-Many secrets…w-well, it is then imperative that I come too!! To make sure it is truly safe!!”

“Eh~? No way, ma’am…they’re called secrets for a reason, you know…”

I teased her a bit, and Dorothea was on the verge of tears.

“Tenma~~please~~! Please take me with you~~I beg you~~”

Haha, this is fun…

Dorothea’s facial expressions were so rich in variety, that I could look at her forever.

I thought for a moment, eventually reaching the conclusion that I just needed to use Contract magic.

I had seen Dorothea writhe on the floor several times already, so I knew well the effects of Contract magic and had become maybe a little too reliant on it, but Dorothea wasn’t a bad person at her core, anyway.

She was obsessed with experimenting, but I could believe that she wasn’t going to use her knowledge for ill intentions, because of how careless she was.

“I need to add a confidentiality rule to our Contract first, is that okay?”

“O-Of course! I’m not going to roll on the floor anymore!”

Hmm, I wonder about that…well, it’s always fun to see, anyway.

I then took out a bunny ears headband from the Item Box.

“One more thing! From now on, you will have to wear this when we’re together!”

I expected a soon-to-be sixty years old woman to put up some resistance, but Dorothea happily agreed.

“I-It can’t be helped, I suppose! I accept your conditions!”

Your face and tone betray your enthusiasm, lady!

I knew Misha was glaring at me again, but I had no time to mind her.

Dorothea, with incredible speed, snatched the headband from my hands and put it on her head.

Zizi and Pipi looked like cute rabbit girls, but Dorothea…was a full fledged bunny girl.

Damn! I should have made her an outfit to match!

So I screamed internally.

I was there, fixated on Dorothea, when the older maid’s husky voice resounded in the room.

“If you are going back to your base, does it mean that the guinea fowl party is canceled…?”

I took a look around, and noticed that the other maids seemed disappointed too.

Since they were Dorothea’s servants, I wanted to keep a friendly relationship with them…and people in this world could become very resentful, when it was about guinea fowl.

“Oh no, you were all so kind and helpful to us. Please let me repay you!”

It was like the sun started shining on the maids’ faces.

“Can you please show me the kitchen, then? Zizi, I’ll need your help cooking. Misha, please keep an eye on Sil and Pipi.”

Zizi nodded enthusiastically, and Misha puffed up her chest with a smug look on her face.

Dorothea…was busy touching her bunny ears, so I left her alone.

Why did no one say anything about the bunny ears moving, though…?

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

After we had breakfast and relaxed for a bit, one of the maids took me and Zizi to the kitchen.

I wanted her to learn cooking soon, so I thought of showing her how I did it, so she could memorize the process.

I started by butchering a guinea fowl.

I separated organs, cartilages and meat, then put the organs on skewers for grilling, ordered by organ type.

I let Zizi try it too, but it didn’t go well, ruining the precious guinea fowl organs. I gave up on that and decided to ask someone else for help.

Zizi’s talent in Cooking was [A], so pretty high, but her DEX was only [D], which was worrying me a bit…I only wanted her to learn the flow of cooking that day, so she could work hard and improve little by little from now on.

There wasn’t an oven suitable for grilling the skewers in the residence, so I took out my own oven and started grilling the guinea fowl skewers over coal.

I made sure the meat was cooked enough, seasoned them with salt and herbs, then put them in the Item Box.

Next up, fried chicken.

I cut the meat in bite-sized pieces and dipped them in the salt sauce I had made before. After letting them marinate in it for a while, I coated them in my homemade flour and potato starch mix: now I only had to fry them.

In order to fry the cartilages, I first coated them in a starch & herbs mix.

The guinea fowl preparations were complete, so I put them back in the Item Box.

While I was preparing the meat, I asked the kitchen staff to peel potatoes, which Zizi would then cut with a fried potato cutter.

I had made the device myself: you just needed to push it against a potato to slice it in the right size for fried potatoes.

Thanks to that, even someone clumsy like Zizi didn’t have to worry about failing, but because of her lack of strength and stamina, she got tired pretty quickly.

She still managed to cut all the potatoes, though, so I started frying them, together with the meat and cartilages I had prepared. I placed the resulting portions on plates of various sizes and stored them in the Item Box.

Lastly, I also fried one guinea fowl whole, without cutting it on purpose.

The fried dishes were all done.

The soup was a simple Wild Coq & egg recipe. For a more balanced nutrition, I also made a salad with an orange dressing: the party menu was done.

By the way, the head cook was first surprised by the good condition my guinea fowls were in, shocked that I had more than ten, then devastated by my cooking methods and herbs.

As thanks for letting me borrow the kitchen, I gave the head cook some Forest Boar bacon and uncured ham. I explained the best way to eat them and they happily allowed me to use the kitchen.

I smiled and went to the dining room, to ask for some plates…and stopped in my tracks, perplexed.

Where did all these people come from?

Even Zanvert and Barrol were sitting at the table. The women next to them…were their wives, maybe? There was another couple I had never seen before, and a girl about twelve years old.
