We had a lovely holiday with friends in Switzerland. I filled myself up with cold water swims in mountain streams and walking and talking and hanging out with their new baby and their six year old daughter. Laser slotted right in, patting the baby, following the six year old like a lost duck and advancing her extremely passionate relationship with the horses next door. Idyllic.
On Tuesday morning I was due to fly to manchester for WIP of twist and on Monday night I was packing and tracking dad’s arrival to the Airbnb in london. Apparently he got the key no worries but when he approached the front door he saw it had been kicked in and when he went inside everything was upside down and all over the place.
They took all my electronics, audio and lighting and filming equipment, which is a major hassle to replace. It’s not covered by our travel insurance but I’m hoping the Airbnb insurance will do the trick? Who knows. Mainly I’m just glad it wasn’t us with Laser Fraser walking in to disaster zone - that we had a little lead time to start on logistics and get mentally prepared.
Not the best end of a 26 hour flight for Professor Fraser though; waiting for an emergency locksmith at 1am.
So far the security on this place has done exactly the opposite of what it was meant to, which is to say locked me out with a surprise security door for which we hadn’t been given keys: “that wasn’t meant to be closed”, and then let someone kick the door in. At least it’s good to know they weren’t lying about the security door not usually being closed.
Thanks to everyone who has been nice about it - I don’t need anything except new mics and equipment, which is just money and hassle to fix.
Some kind people have offered loans, which is lovely and beyond generous but at the moment seems like just more logistics to not actually solve the problem long term. I need to have mics that I can take with me. The upside is nobody hurt, nothing irreplaceable gone. Downside is not feeling v secure in ye olde home and the hassle of having to find and buy new equipment so I can do my job.
Anyway. Lots of other stuff
