Final Fantasy Fortress, the Lost Action RPG before FFXV

Final Fantasy Fortress is a cancelled action RPG that was being developed by Grin in 2008 and 2009 to be published by Square-Enix on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. While Grin were developing Bionic Commando for Capcom, Yoichi Wada from Square Enix visited their offices and loved what he saw and proposed to Grin to create a new game together. Initially Square Enix invited Grin to pitch a game based on their japanese card game Lord of Vermilion, but later they decided to use the Final Fantasy name.

We had an old article about Fortress on Unseen64 ( https://www.unseen64.net/2009/09/08/fortress-final-fantasy-xbox-360-ps3-cancelled/ ) , but as always we are trying to create more videos about less-known lost games, so that it could be easier to remember them now that most gamers don't read nor share websites anymore.

As always, thanks for your support! :)

Thanks again for your help Mason! Without people like you I could not be able to do videos for Unseen64 and i'm sure the site would slowly die if not doing at least a video each month.. what a strange internet we are living in! ;) Comments with criticism are good to improve ourselves, even if sometime Youtube comments feel more like random trolls than anything else :O

Really glad I could participate in this episode! Hopefully I did it justice, the comments have provided some constructive criticism I'll keep in mind for the future. And yeah, I knew about Grin when I was reading them when working on a mini-script for Payday, but I didn't realize just how bad Square treated them. Especially for a small studio like that.

Desdemona M.

Indeed, Grin had some talented developers, it's really a shame that Square never paid them even if they did develop a prototype, even if they did not like the result should have given them some money for their work.. not nice at all :(

Always been a fan of grin so this made me sad to know this was happening when they closed their doors
