patreon

I don't know what I'm doing.

Hey guys,

So, I'd like to ask you all for a bit of help with the patreon page. I need you guys to tell me what you like, don't like and how I could improve it at all. I just sort of threw this thing together and admittedly I didn't give it much thought. So please, if you have a moment, just leave me a comment on how it could be better in terms of rewards, frequency and quality of content etc. Please be as harsh as you want to be, I want to know how you really feel and I won't be offended by anything you have to say. I just want to make this as good as it can be.

Thanks a lot, and I hope you're all having a great weekend!

Bobbyboy

I don't know what I'm doing.

Comments

That's really good advice, thanks! I have things mostly planned out from start to finish, with a bit of room for minor adjustments based on feedback, but I have all major events and an ending for the game planned out. I see a lot of games that start strong and just seem to lose focus and just start doing what people want regardless of how it fits the original vision. I'm staying vigilant in that regard, and I won't let that happen with this game.

Bobbyboy Productions

I love everything you're doing. Just be careful to keep the characters intact and don't turn this into a porno like "Adventurous Couple" or something. Keep an end-point in mind. It may seem far off, but ending a VN on a high note is the difference between patrons staying for the next game or dipping.

George Costanza

First off, you are doing great for not knowing what you're doing lol. Second, there is no need to be harsh since you have done very good so far. There is always room for improvement as with everything in life, so don't worry too much. I'll send you my ideas and suggestions over the weekend as I mentioned before. Keep up the awesome good works, Bobbyboy! You're doing great! Cheers!

Jonny Boy NY

that’s a great idea. Thanks a lot for that.

Bobbyboy Productions

Thanks a lot for that. Cheers.

Bobbyboy Productions

Maybe do a feedback poll after releases to see what people liked or didn’t like. Whatever you think will be useful to you and help you produce quality content. Getting constant feedback is key to improving in any field

M5project

I'm still a beginner on patreon myself, so not really sure what you could do better, but I like what you're doing. Keep up the good work! 👌 If I can think of something, I will send you a message.

Pendraak85

Thanks for the ideas Johnny! Cheers.

Bobbyboy Productions

As others have said - you're mostly ahead of other devs I've experienced. I think it's a good idea to keep engagement up with polls - even if they don't really affect anything of consequence In-game, just lighthearted stuff like what people's favorite scenes were, or what their own ideal scene would look like (regardless of if these are intended as creative input or just people talking about the game for fun).

Pr0GamerJohnny

Wow, thank you so much for this. I’m really glad I have been able to connect with so many great people with this visual novel. I was not expecting so much positivity from so many people when I started this project. Reading messages like this makes me energized to keep going and work hard. Thanks Armando for the kind words and the advice!

Bobbyboy Productions

I have little time in this VN games and I have really supported few because in one way or another they tend to become lazy in my perspective once they start to see better income for the moment I can congratulate you, you are doing very well You are attentive to the participation of your patreon and there is constant communication with the way in which you participate with everyone with your progress, which makes me think that the best strategy would be to continue with renders of progress and even whatever you can think of to animate unpaid participants to subscribe and support you like us, if you manage your time well and manage to keep the progression of your updates constantly I wish you much success, and some of my colleagues in this area of fun have shown interest in your work and I am quite sure that they will support you in the not distant future, keep up the good work and follow the original guidelines that your objectives have proposed, the opinion of your sponsors counts but cannot guide the path that you have decided from the beginning. I congratulate you for your good work and I hope that you continue to grow and accumulate enough followers to dedicate yourself fully to the continuation of this project, which from what I have been able to see even on the pirate site that we all know f..... 95 has been a success in fact I joined your supporters thanks to that, keep up as before and give them some advances and I assure you that the community will grow exponentially, I will support you and let my group know that you are online to do my best to maintain constant communication and the previews of your work so your success will surely be guaranteed, much success, luck and imanigation to create a story that keeps us interested, finally, forgive me, my English is not my native language, I used the translator for everything, sincerely myself

ARMANDO GONZALEZ

Thanks a lot Ben! Yeah I haven't been posting enough free stuff. And the name of the game on the main page is something I never really thought about. I figured the cover image would be enough, but you're right, people forget so I'll try and make it more front and center.

Bobbyboy Productions

Post stuff out for the free tier whenever possible, otherwise you're turning away a lot of potential followers. Most important. Don't get angry with the pirate sites, they are where most of your followers come from, so keep an eye on the forums there and engage with them, they will drive more followers to you. Some games have 30+ pages of forum discussions, some are in the 1000's. Do make the game name instantly visible to a visitor or follower. I follow nearly 100 Patreon accounts, most I don't know/remember which game they are making and it doesn't show. They then don't update regularly so drop off my radar. Protect you health, get this over the finish line and you will have a reputation to build on. Play other adult games, there are some great ideas out there.

Ben Hill

Thanks Arrow! You know, there may be more to the flasher than meets the eye 🤔

Bobbyboy Productions

Wow, thanks so much for all that feedback! That was a big help Applejay! I will add several points from this to my list of things to do/consider. Thanks again, I appreciate your time spent on this.

Bobbyboy Productions

Breaking down what I've noticed about your Patreon page and comparing with others I've supported in the past. Rewards - You're honestly doing pretty darn good on this front, frequent posts, teasing images. But since you asked for specifics... - Previews and status updates. You've been frequent and generous with those but not consistent - I'm sure there are others who'd like more of a routine, personally I don't mind inconsistency at all. Being surprised by a new post just 24 hours after the last one can be exciting and it sends the message that you're actively working on the game. If you ever don't post for a week straight then we can interpret that as you not having much time to work on the game. - Public posts. Making one substantive status post per release/per month that's visible to the public is a great strategy, without it the non-patrons can only get their information from pirate sites. I don't know if you can pin a post to the top of the feed but that might be an idea to ensure potential new patrons can easily find something for them. The image attached to the public posts could even be a little spicier (but not too spicy due to Patreon's rules about NSFW images in the public section of a page) to give potential new patrons a taste. - Polls. Polls are great for engagement but can lead to issues. The polls you've done so far have been good (addressing complaints and gauging niche interest) but you want to be careful about how a poll is structured/worded so they don't end up steering content in a direction only half the Patrons want, the other half could start to feel marginalized. Like every form of player feedback, poll results should be taken as part of a solution, not the whole solution. - Early access/Release tiers. Love it. No notes. Reward suggestion - Special reward render(s) (per month/week/release - whatever your schedule allows) for Patrons only. Something not from the game proper so it doesn't feel like leftovers. You've already done this somewhat, the 'Merry Christmas' and 'Happy New Year' posts were fun one-offs that feel like they were made just for us, which is a nice feeling. For examples of a few adult game developers that do versions of Patron only art: DeepSleep - One-off, hi-res images of the main character, framed and polished in photoshop to make them look like high-art nude photography. DS23Games - Short 4-8 image scenes of the central cast of characters in out of story scenes, e.g. heroines and the bad guys together at a pool party. Paperwork - One off images that transplant the main character and a handful of supporting characters into a scene in different settings (medieval fantasy, sci-fi spaceship, etc) but still depicted as acting how they would in the game proper. Other observations - - A particularly good post. 'I need fashion advice!' was a really great post, the number of comments on it is a good metric for that obviously - I think it was a perfect way to enlist patron input. You had something specific in mind, asked for suggestions and got your pick from the responses, patrons felt included (and motivated by the reward), but the end result would still fit within your own goals/vision. - Engagement. If you are concerned about how the Patreon thing is going then I'd say I don't think you need to be. 'Engagement' on posts will ebb and flow for seemingly no reason at all regardless of how many patrons you get, 90-95% of the internet are lurkers after all. Plus when it comes to this kind of subject matter, some posts just aren't going to get much of a response because the only thing people are thinking is "Hmm yes, I look forward to jerking off to this." - Target audience. Personally, I like to comb through preview images and try to extrapolate plot spoilers, sometimes to a degree that comes across as obsessive, there's a few people like this around and I'm sure there'll be more here as the game grows in popularity. I do it because it passes the time between new chapters and is fun in its own way (not as fun as actually playing your lovely game but still). What I'm saying is that as the game grows in popularity it may start to attract fans who get something out of it that isn't what you anticipated - some may even try to turn it into something other than what you intended. It sounds like you've got a clear plan for how the game/story is going to go which is great, we've all enjoyed what you've made so far which means you've already started to find an audience. If you are tempted to chase a different/bigger audience then that's cool too, just make sure you're still making the thing you want at the end of the day. TL;DR Previews good. Polls risky but okay. Tiers great. Patron only renders? Asset crowd-sourcing fun. Don't sweat quiet comment section. Do your thing.

AppleJay

Page is great. I love the frequent updates. Here for the sharing/hotwife content. Don't care if the love content is in the game at all to be honest. Keep up the great work! Oh and I love the flasher!

Arrow

I like the way it is now. And the frequency of teasers too.

None300

Your doing good, but I do want to see longer storylines, more dirty plays.

Thiessen Yang

Yeah I need to get on that. What I'd really love is if someone made one for me and I could just be a mod or whatever. I don't use discord so I don't know how that works exactly. I'll need to figure it out, like you said it would make it easier for everyone to discuss things.

Bobbyboy Productions

I feel a bit embarrassed : I honestly have nothing to say. ^^! As NoTrainrex said it, you do an excellent job and yes, regular posts about progression is very important, if not the most important thing to do, and you do it well. I am also eager to see your Discord be opened, it would be easier to dicsuss :-) Good luck ! ;-)

HikBenAkk477

Interesting, thanks for the ideas!

Bobbyboy Productions

Awesome, thanks a lot for this!

Bobbyboy Productions

Interesting, I'll think about that. Thanks.

Bobbyboy Productions

Hey Bobby, regarding the Patreon page, I think you’re doing an excellent job overall. To reiterate the good points made above, the primary thing about the Patreon posts are the frequent and recurring updates we receive to let us know you’re still actively working on the project (even if just a teaser image). I’m subbed to another creator who sends updates out on a weekly basis (frequency is up to you) but I really like the way he handles it in terms of an estimated % completion on the current build and what he accomplished in the past week (maybe a lot, maybe not so much due to challenges and life circumstances at the moment). For subscribers above a certain tier, he offers polls on cosmetic and minor story decisions and periodically offers a set of 4K renders usually based on a holiday theme which I really like. At higher tiers, he offers the ability to make story suggestions and I actually helped him craft one of the sharing scenes.

NoTrainRex

Also I know not everyone will like this, but you could increase prices by 25% given the engagement you offer

peter

Better job than other developers so far. Polls are great for clothes, character plot choices ( example "who should Kat meet for coffee ABCD " . We like to feel with have an input .

peter

Thanks Scoog. I'm glad you're happy with the content. Let me know if you think of anything that can be improved. Cheers.

Bobbyboy Productions

I think you're doing a pretty good job so far. I think the most important thing is consistent content updates. Everything else is just filler content really. You've been good at keeping patrons in the loop with your dev logs and whetting appetites for upcoming content with teaser images, and you've utilised polls/votes, which help supporters feel part of the project/process. I've enjoyed your work so far and am looking forward to chapter three.

Scoog

Thanks King, I was looking more for help with the patreon page specifically and not the game, at least for this post. I was going to ask that questions with an upcoming dev up[date. But regardless, thanks for the info. I'll add those things to my list of things to consider for the game.

Bobbyboy Productions

Thanks Jon, I'll add those things to the list of to do's.

Bobbyboy Productions

Frequency and quality of posts has been great and much better than other Dev's i;ve seen. I saw it mentioned a couple days ago about like what could help a patreon page. I am just gona copy and paste what they said. - add the title of the game to posts on patreon (Or in the first lines of the post). - Have a sticky post on patreon with who you are, what you're working on, future plans & a link to a demo (or early version). - Don't underestimate reddit and twitter either, there are a variety of tools that let you cross-promote easily without having to make each post manually. People like to see work-in-progress and bloopers.

PinkSpectre

Hey Bobby. Well, then I'll try to say what I like and what I don't like. I really like your surprise effects (flasher), the sequence was completely unexpected and was cool, even if not much happened. But you could build your sequences on the bass. Your renders are very good, as are your models (Kathryn is top). I would recommend that you simply continue with your concept, which you probably already have. Here and there you could expand the dialogue between MC and Kathryn a little in terms of sharing, cuckolding or cheating. Kathryn's first sex tubes can also be installed to test whether MC is ready to go that far. I like dirty talk between MC and Kathryn about cheating, sharing, cuckolding, whichever it takes, I would leave that up to you. What I don't like is in the current development phase: anal and bi (lesbian), that could come later. I wish you good luck, maybe I could help. I'm looking forward to your new update. Love your game.
