Image quality poll
Added 2023-12-28 02:11:23 +0000 UTCHey guys, I'd like to get your opinions on the image quality of the renders in the game. I saw a couple people comment on a forum that the renders are "noisy as hell". What do you guys think about this? If a decent number of people agree that they look bad then I'll work on denoising them using topaz or whatever going forward.

Thanks for all the votes guys. Going forward I am going to put certain renders that have a noticeable amount of noise through topaz AI photo to make them look better. I have already started this on some of the existing renders, specifically some of the movie theatre renders from the lobby and it looks a lot better. Thanks again guys for helping me improve things!

2023-12-30 16:10:17 +0000 UTCI think your renders are great and would prefer more new content. You can always remaster the game later if you want to. NTRMAN did that with the Adelaide Inn a few years back. But even the first version of the game was amazing and had people hooked.

2023-12-29 01:19:38 +0000 UTCIt's the balance between optimum and perfection. Of course it could be bigger, faster etc but honestly the quality and speed is perfectly acceptable. Nobody is going to turn down more, but please not at the expense of either speed or burn out.

I'm not going to obsess over the visual quality but I am going to use an AI solution to improve the renders in post. I tested this out yesterday and it made quite a noticeable improvement.

What drew me to the game in the first place was the writing (characters, scenarios, etc) but honestly what drove me to pledge was the possibility of finally finding a game I like, that doesn't make me wait 6-10 months per update because the developer becomes obsessed with visual fidelity. I think you're right in the sweet spot.

2023-12-28 10:42:26 +0000 UTCIn my opinion the renders have a medium quality, so there is no need to be fixed anything (i have selected the B choice). But if you want top notch renders (ex. Tacos, Because I Love Her, Where It All Began, etc.), you'll have to upgrade your PC (especially the video card), or pass more time for to create each render. You can also pass from 2K renders to Full HD renders, in this way the quality improve a lot with the same creating time i think. However if the ETA's update will be longer, it's better to remain with this quality, that is medium for me. In other words, if for to improve the renders the time from each update will be a lot more longer, is better that they stay like now! :)

2023-12-28 08:50:09 +0000 UTCI think they look good, however if my memory is right the ones from CH2 looked slightly inferior to CH1; could just be different environments and I'm mistaken, or perhaps you changed hardware between them? Either way it's no big deal.

2023-12-28 08:33:28 +0000 UTCIf denoising increases the render time and delay for releases, in my opinion it doesn't worth it, as the picture grain does not affect the overall game quality and interest . Really the most important aspects of a VN should be : scenario, dialogs, credibility of characters . For the picture itself it'd be lighting setup, and composition. And that's it for now. This game has a good balance between all of those I think. If later your setup upgrades to the point that you can achieve a better image quality with the same mentioned parameters, and a good release rate, just do it obviously , but really it's not crucial IMO.

2023-12-28 07:29:51 +0000 UTCNo complaints about the image quality. The balance between quality/noisiness and overall file size can be tricky, so a certain amount of sacrifice is always acceptable to produce a manageable size.
