Fortunately, video tapes haven't been invented yet. Pete has no need to return them.

tilden katz

I also think she sleeps with him because it is an old trick called the honeypot. Now that she slept with harry she has something that will ruin Paul and Harry's relationship if she ever decides to tell Paul

Mitchell

Lol. Harry is definitely the worst

Mitchell

Good observation, I feel there are so many layers to the next episode but I hadn't considered that link.

Kev

Yes they've watched Better Call Saul. I'm not sure if they've seen Curb but I could see that being a fun option. They don't typically react to comedy shows as far as I know

Taya

Im new here, but have LM seen Better Call Saul? If they have, then they should do a comedy for a change of pace. Curb Your Enthusiasm. Or, have they seen that, as well?

tilden katz

Lola and Milena, I know you're going to give us a Frieren 1x01 rewatch today and I'll faithfully believe it until midnight

Bernardo

Pluribus would likely be in the weekly category. Not sure if it’s after Andor or Fallout

My Toasty Toast

Excluding Lane's plotline, I find everything about this episode hilarious. Also, Pete's line "no one has given me the reaction I desire from this blessed event" REALLY gives Dennis Reynolds / Patrick Bateman energy.

Kev

Why were you glad if you already knew the outcome before finishing the show? I'm just saying that because clearly by writing your comment you assume LM also know the outcome before finishing the show.

Kev

It's a great scene that demonstrates development in contrast to the past. It's almost hard to believe that Peggy was ever in competition with Paul just a couple seasons ago.

Kev

The Mohawk plane model that Joan breaks (the one Pete placed) foreshadows the Mohawk strike that further indirectly strains Lane by the end of the episode.

Infode

They’ve already seen it. Also, we don’t like expectation-setting comments.

Julien

I saw them once in a park in Chicago a couple of years ago. Didn't know they were still around. They were dancing and singing that or something similar. Same vibes. Seemed fun tbh. I love that the series showed this aspect of 60s counter-culture. Lot was going on at the time with the youth.

Julien

I have the Hare Krishna song stuck in my head 🫤

Taya

prepare for episode 11 D:

on crip ...

Excellent point that I hadn't thought about. Finally after many years, her strategy makes some sense! In effect, she is blackmailing Harry.

Julien

I think Lakshmi seduced Harry because she wanted to inject some poison into the friendship between Harry & Paul, not necessarily because she was "making a trade". She probably felt as though Harry would be far less insistant on continuing communication with Paul if he knew that Lakshmi could bring up their little office romp at any time.

Father of the Year

If they do a long show before Pluribus, I’m breaking up with Lola.

Jason

thankfully there's zero chance of that happening 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Bernardo

It's not fuck you money, it's fuck EVERYBODY money.

tilden katz

Yeah, in the days before tightly-serialized television, it was pretty common to write and sell spec scripts to on-going tv shows. That's how Vince Gilligan got his break on X-Files.

Mike

Imagine if Frieren season 2 winds up like Arcane season 2. LM might shut down the channel.

Father of the Year

Also, we need to get you to watch Golden Kamuy, it is the closest thing to FMAB and even surpasses it in my opinion.

Sami

Yes, as much as I loved seeing them together, it definitely feels like fan service.

Sami

Golden Kamuy please, i know they are going to love it.

Sami

Yeah, Don Season 5 is my favorite Don.

Sami

Roger is obviously rich but nowhere near a present-day billionaire lol. Remember, he agreed to sell S&C to PPL because his divorce was expensive. When you are a billionaire, you require a security detail - even if you're not famous. You might ask, who would know? But there is no way to quietly have that kind of money. And Roger is a man of society. He would need security. Yet Rogers runs around town solo, sometimes in seedy places (like the illegal gambling joint, the brothel, or the part of town where he got robbed with Joan). When you're billionaire, you fly by private jet, even if you don't own one (you can charter it). Even if you are frugal, again, it's a security issue. Roger flies commercial. When you're a billionaire, access to you has to be controlled. That's because that kind of money attracts all kinds of people. People will seek you out for example to fund this and that project. Constantly. You are basically an institution. For your own tranquility, you have to remove yourself from regular people. There must be people in your employ to filter out who gets access to you. Roger's seems quite accessible. When you're a billionaire, you can call the president, and I assure you the White House would get him on the phone. If you request a meeting, he will see you. Roger has nowhere near that kind of clout. A billion dollars is an extraordinary amount of money. It's fuck you money. It's very easy to buy an expensive apartment on a whim with a far far smaller net worth.

Julien

I don’t know if that’s fair. From her perspective she wasn’t being promiscuous. She was using sex as a weapon against harry and not for personal pleasure. As she indicated, she was disgusted by what happened. I think the problem is that she learned from her past life that sex is the only power she has and she used that power to protect the cult. As delusional as it is, this act kind of demonstrates selflessness. Which is the opposite of the hedonistic lifestyle she supposedly led. (To be clear, my above comment doesn’t change the fact that she is an awful person. Especially when it comes her treatment of Paul.)

Mahad Ali

I think Don would have given him the loan but I also think any normal company would have let him go once he informed them. Since no prudent company would allow a guy with money problems to have such control over their finances.

Mahad Ali

An unsolicited Star Trek script was how Ronald D. Moore, the creator of Battlestar Galactica got his start… He was on a private tour of the set of Star Trek Next Generation and, unsolicited, handed an episode script to the show creator’s assistant. That one interaction got him an agent and they eventually bought the script and filmed it as an episode. He was 25 at the time. (I think he eventually became the show runner.) So there is precedent for what kinsey is trying to do… and ironically the precedent was set on the very same show.

Mahad Ali

Lmao at the caption, it's great you were so surprised!

Scott

Harry: It was really hard for him. Peggy: Then he shouldn't do it. BINGO. That was the line of the episode. Peggy has become ruthlessly perceptive, almost as much as Joan.

tilden katz

It does feel a little shabby.

tilden katz

The FAN SERVICE that was that scene with Don and Joan, was exactly what we thought a scene like that would be. Doris Day singing the Christmas Waltz in the background. Oh, man................ Don can only feel that a woman is special if he doesn't want them. Peggy is the love of his life, (yeah, I said it) and he admires Joan greatly. Lane has been going to far away places, figuratively, all season.

tilden katz

They couldn't even get many platonic scenes in there. The bisexual panic was too real. They even got Milena to use the word “babies” in a scene with Don Draper in it. Even though she walked it back in the review and said it was all Joan. Haha.

Jamie

The chemistry between Don and Joan is insane, the two of them together in a relationship would be chaotic to a level that even the show's writers wouldn't know how to handle

Bernardo

I believe wholeheartedly that if Lane had asked Don, or even Roger, for a loan, they would have given him one out of their own pocket. Don may not have even asked for it to be paid back (Although Roger probably would as a way to assert dominance). But he can't bring himself to ADMIT that he needs help, so he lies to his wife, and his coworkers, and his partners, and tries to fix it with embezzlement. (Bert Cooper and Pete wouldn't have given him a personal loan. Pete because Layne knocked him flat a few episodes ago, and Bert because of his extreme social darwinistic philosophy.) What I think is so apparent with Don and Joan's scene is that Don honestly doesn't mean to treat other people badly. There no ill-intent. And that somehow makes it all the more sad, because that means that all of the harm he causes is incidental and didn't need to happen. I think this episode is actually Harry acting at his best (which is a low bar to cross). Leaving aside cheating on his wife with what he thinks is a friend's girlfriend (Which is inexcusable), he truly wants to help Paul. He doesn't want to crush a friend's dreams, he also doesn't want to break his heart, so he pays out of his own pocket to give him the opportunity to explore his dream elsewhere. Is it the right thing to do? No, it's not. I think it's going to explode and ruin Paul's life even more in LA. But he was really trying to help.

JBK405

I learned from entourage (which I think we should watch someday) that the hobbit script was written by fans, so that can happen as far as adaptations from books, but writing scripts on spec of an ongoing series is a long shot. Though, maybe is can showcase skills.

Them being so excited about The Other Woman and Lola being happy to edit it cause she previously got stuck with Pete/Harry stuff is hilarious.

Jamie

"I think this is the most meaningful work I've ever done in my life. It's a speculative episode of the hit television show Start Trek." Elite Don & Joan episode. Elite Meredith episode. Elite Harry episode??? The scene with Harry & Kinsey at the diner is the most seriously the show has taken Harry since S1, and I honestly love it. A genuine mix of shame about Lakshmi, concern for Paul, a desire to right his wrongs, and the dirty feeling of having to do it with $500 in cash... Really strong stuff from a character (two characters, even) who has mostly become a punchline. Love the scenes with Don and Joan. "Surprise, there's an airplane here to see you!" They almost feel like old friends catching up despite working together. Not really a fan of the Paul story. Not my favourite character but to bring him back as a punchline feels cheap.

Mark M

This string of episodes from now to the finale might be my favourite of the whole series

Alfie Harrison

I love how they handle these scenes with Joan and Don. Cause they hardly ever put them together but when they do it’s magnetic. They clearly respect each other quite a lot

Jude G

Not sure if "love" is the right word lol, I imagine they're pretty upset about what happens. But god it's such a good episode

Taya

Warn you?! Never!! lol We all knew you would love what's coming. So glad you are enjoying this :)

PIG

Paul said that his girlfriend used to be promiscuous and now she is saved. The thing is that she is still the same and had sex with Harry because people never change, an usual theme in Mad Men.

Juanma88

"You want cheese with that?" Erm, yes please for the love of god

windyMelon

It’s literally Mad Men imo. It’s the most meticulously written series of all time

Alfie Harrison

Best show to ever exist, you say? What a way to announce you'll be watching Justified next.

Mike Conlin

ok what is actually best show to ever exist haha

sooo can we get an anime movie reaction? 👁 or frieren 1x01 rewatch? 👉👈

Damn I didn’t know we were re watching the wire next week.

Like you said in the discussion, they know just how to deploy Don and Joan scenes. We don't see them a lot but they hit like dynamite everytime. Regarding the script, prospective writers used to submit scripts all the the time. Ron Moore, the Battlestar Galactica showrunner, had washed out of the Navy and got a job as a TV writer for Star Trek The Next Generation by submitting a spec script to the production offices. It's more of a network tv tradition but some tv veterans will say that its instructive as a way to develop your skills since writers rooms used to be bigger and new writers were hired for ongoing shows with preestablished character dynamics more frequently.

Griffen Rosado

Unfortunately they’ve seen it

Darrach

oh nice its Leftovers time

Chris

The thing is, it's Deadwood time.

Derek Suboticki

Guys, when is the next poll for a short show happening? I've been joking before but now that I've finished "Heated Rivalry" I genuinely can't recommend it enough to the girls. The best TV experience I've had all year genuinely and at only 6 episodes. I know the girls LOVE romance so this should be up their alley because the chemistry between the main actors is crazy

bondbond53

youve already seen the wire so what else is there to anticipate??

Josip

Don and Joan together are just breathtaking. I'm glad the show never consumed their possible couple as it would do both characters no grace

bondbond53

Yay Mad Men! Also I forget but is anything set to replace Bocchi?

mundanelotus

Joan, and also Peggy
