Please don't spoil future episodes.

Close the door, have a seat. Is probably my favourite episode of the whole show. It's great seeing them get excited for questions that all have their answers in that episode. I think they're going to really enjoy the direction it goes from here.

me stacking objects that make no sense but give the best buffs (+15 mental health) in a builder game

I agree with your last thought. Episode would've been fine if they just told the story in the normal way. rot13.com Hayvxr Snenjnl Cynprf va frnfba svir jurer gur abayvarne sbezng jbexf ernyyl jryy. Bar bs zl snibevgr rcvfbqrf bs gur fubj, va snpg.

Betty's chaise longue in the middle of the room reminds me of the houses I used to make in The Sims

Great episode, love the song at the end.

It amuses me seeing the look Don gives when Carlton tells him about the solitude, lonely feeling of being a runner when talking about Suzanne. He instantly becomes more attracted to her thinking she potentially has that in common with him.πŸ˜…

18:14 Peggy did indeed, "go to fucking Duck"

The Don/Betty argument in this one is great: Don is 100% right that his lack of a contract gives him leverage at work. Betty is 100% right that he doesn't let her in regarding his job or their finances. (And Don is 100% right to be mad at Roger.) If they were more of a team -- we've seen some of this from Pete & Trudy and Harry & Jennifer -- I don't think this would become a wedge issue. But of course things go off the rails immediately because the contract becomes a metaphor for their marriage. So yeah, Betty *is* turning the conversation into something about herself -- or about them, to be precise -- but that was unavoidable with a commitment-phobe like Don. "What's the matter? You don't know where you're going to be in three years?" Well, touchΓ©. That's the kind of devastatingly accurate thing that only Betty could say to him. I love how the show lets Peggy get messy here. Hooking up with Duck isn't a mistake, exactly, and she's quite clear about turning down his professional offer before she gets involved with him, but let's be real: She's isn't making this choice with a clear head. She's pissed at Don. That doesn't seem like a *great* recipe for good decision-making. Betty & Henry reconnecting is funny. Suddenly she is involved in the Junior League of Tarrytown? Has this ever come up before? It totally works, but "save the reservoir!" is such a silly macguffin. (In a good way!) Last thought: I don't think the timeline experimentation in this episode is particularly effective. Who is Peggy sleeping with? How did Don end up knocked out in a hotel? These mysteries don't feel as compelling as the version of the episode that surprises you with Peggy's hook-up or Don getting rolled by those kids. And I don't think it really does much on a thematic level either? Nothing wrong with trying something new, I guess.

Mike

for Peggy and Duck to be considered one of the healthiest sexual relationships on this show is because the level of the others is really very low.

Bernardo

noooo they mean 30 minutes of answering questions divided between 150 minutes of drinking wine and terrace yapping

I love Betty's to Don re: "you don't know where you're gonna be in three years?" (and the delivery! πŸ”₯) but I read it slightly differently: to me, she was calling him out on his commitment to her and his family and whatever delusions of keeping his options open with regard to them that he may have been entertaining. In some ways, she saw got a glimpse of the real Don, though she may not have fully realized it. (Edit: upon rereading your comment, you basically did say this in your first paragraph.) Separately, much as I love that line, it feels like a bit of an anachronism. Perhaps because I've said "I don't know where I'm gonna be in a couple of years" thing a lot back in my 20s - and heard the same from my peers. Americans move A LOT more these days than they used to back then so this phrase makes a lot more sense now than then.

Someone else beat me to it but Roger doesn't know Connie yeah. Roger is Rich, but Connie is like BILLIONAIRE rich, he probably cracks the top-100 most rich / powerful people in the world at the time. This makes Connie's interest in Don even more interesting. It's like Jeff Bezos meeting you in a bar and wanting to schedule 1-to-1 meetings cuz he vibes with you πŸ’€ His request that Don have a contract is also pretty sensible - if you're going to engage in a multi-year partnership based entirely on one guy, you want that guy to be contracted to the company lol. I think you know this but just to be sure, Henry is divorced/single. I always read that comment from the woman as being like "He's a divorced man, he'll prefer a call from cute blonde Betty". Of course he is knowingly meeting with a married woman who was literally pregnant when they met. Which is interesting, Betty having 3 kids including a new baby doesn't deter him at all. Many men would have instantly clocked out on hearing that. Peggy and Duck seem like a strange pairing but you have to remember we've only seen her have sex two times, both with Pete Campbell, and you know for sure Pete is laying that god awful drunk frat boy pipe 😭. She's probably never had an orgasm that wasn't generated by the Relax-a-Cizor! So when an older sober experienced MAN (not anxious baby boy) seems genuinely enthusiastic about giving her pleasure, it's a good pitch. And of course as discussed she feels bad from Don venting at her, it's nice to feel genuinely wanted for once, not like some little girl Don keeps around. Being "1A" means you are available for military service and conscription (being drafted to fight). There are ways to get out of this, the main way is to go to university which defers it. But for the young people who don't know how (can't get into school, don't have connections or privilege) the threat of being drafted and sent to Vietnam is becoming very real. I'm sure others with better military history understanding will give more context when needed. Bonus Thoughts: The eclipse-viewing camera obscuras the kids wear all have advertising product logos on them cuz they're recycled. After 1 meeting with Henry, Betty knows more about what's happening with his career than her own husbands πŸ’€

Kara

she dressed up extra nice because she feels so strongly about them building a water tower, obviously.......

Kara

all his dialog on the scene is S-tier. just a perfect speech and shows you how sharp this 'eccentric old man' is, he just stashed away his knowledge of 'dick whitman' in his back pocket until it was more 'profitable' to use it than it was to hide it.

Kara

I'll mention it in my comment but a good way to think about it is Don is a "(new, barely) millionaire", roger is a "multi-millionaire" and Connie is a capital-B Billionaire, in modern terms. it's an order of magnitude difference.

Kara

he gave her a go around like she never had before. he dropped his boxers and whispered "just so you know, this is was opportunity looks like"

Kara

Peggy wanted the full Duck Phillips treatment πŸ¦†

In a show full of sordid affairs and entitled gropey men and dubious consent, it's nice to see Duck be open and upfront with his invitation for sex. He wasn't pushy at all, was very effusive about his desire for Peggy, and implied that he's really good at lovemaking. I mean... why not? I can see why Peggy was wooed. It's a healthier sexual encounter than most on this show!

'English isn't a language, it's three languages in a trench coat.' The way everybody reacts to Conrad Hilton being in Don's office emphasizes that he's RICH-rich. By this point in the show Don's rich, and Bert & Roger have been rich the whole time, but it's a whole different scale with the Hiltons. It's the equivalent of millionaires doing business with billionaires. Both have more money than I do, but millionaires are closer to where I am than they are to the billionaires. And that's why Bert finally put his foot down and told Don he WAS going to sign this contract, because this was an opportunity that S&C has never had before. When McCann Erickson tried to poach Don in season one, one of their maneuvers was to offer Betty a modeling job. Don specifically mentioned them approaching his wife as a low-class scheme when he turned them down. Roger trying to work through Betty now is the catalyst that got Don to tell Bert he didn't want anything to do with him anymore. Don really resents people trying to get at him through Betty.

You can feel Don's naive idea about always keeping your cards close to your chest and having an escape plan come crumbling down in this episode. Betty completely reads him for filth when speaking about the contract and then Bert Cooper reminds him that he know who he is. This might be just my reading of it but the way they speak to him, and the way he responds, also makes it clear how childish they think it is. Betty asks "You don't know where you're going to be in 3 years?" not just in a suspicious way but also in a mocking way. Like "how special do you think you are that you need to keep your options open?", she has no respect for it anymore. And then he throws a hissy fit and runs off. Bert's kind of the same, he kind of talks down to him, completely unconcerned with his motivation. "I know who you are and nobody gives a shit", and Don signs it begrudgingly like a little boy made to do his homework. Again, maybe I'm misreading things, but that's the way I view it.

Nina

30 min Q&A? I'll prepare for a solid 3 hour long video.

Nina

β€œWho’s really signing?” Line from Bert is one of the best in the show

I feel he's even entitled to a chocolate fudge.

With one scene Bert Cooper demonstrated why his name is on the company's entrance
