Re: Peggy's pregnancy/institutionalization, I'm pretty sure she was a victim of the "Baby Scoop Era." Women who got pregnant out of wedlock were deemed mentally ill and coerced into giving their babies away, usually to rich, white couples.

i was in london at the same time you guys were there but the closest i got to meeting someone known was huda from love island usa lmfaoo (i was trying to manifest an olivia cooke run-in but i would've been happy with andrew lincoln as someone who was obsessed with twd as a teen).

Without any real proof, I suspect that Jennifer took Harry back because she found out she was pregnant.

"My people are nordic" lmao yeah that's it.
Harry putting his head in his pregnant wife's lap and avoiding the conversation about abortion is such a sweet moment.
An interesting episode overall about the support role that people play in their partners' work lives. I don't think Don is "using" Betty by bringing her to dinner; it's pretty normal that he would invite his wife to a work dinner so he isn't outnumbered by the client(s). The gross part about it -- and is it ever gross -- is that he's fingerbanging Jimmy's manager in the bathroom while Betty is waiting for hors d'oeuvres.
Harry & Jennifer's relationship has mostly been offscreen so far. We know that Harry cheated on his wife, then (presumably) came clean about it. We know that she kicked him out for a time, and that they reconciled, and now are having a baby. It feels a little bit like the road not travelled for Don... Somewhere in the pre-history of the show, Don had his first fling with infidelity. I don't think it turned out like that.
So yeah, it's almost sweet to see Jennifer kicking Harry's ass to march into Roger's office and get his raise. And doubley so when Harry, the newly minted as Head of Television, comes home to cuddle with his pregnant wife.
As an aside, I *love* the sound design in that car scene. The rain is absolutely hammering off the car. It sounds like gunfire. There is nothing romantic about it at all. Great stuff.

I forgot to mention in an earlier post, but the TV show that they try to pitch to the lipstick company was a real show. "The Defenders" aired from 1961-1965, and they did make the abortion-themed episode that we see here. The title of that episode was "The Benefactor", which is the same title used for this episode of "Mad Men".
There was a sponsor panic since it was "controversial", and the episode only aired because they did get a last-minute sponsor.
It's another example of this show weaving real history from the '60s into their story.

I grew up somewhere where abortion was only made legal in 2019. Yet when I was a kid there was anti abortion protests in a place where it was not legal, and nowhere close to becoming legal for decades. And yet there were still protests, this in kind of circling back to the discussion on the previous episode. Attitudes to gay people were the same, I donβt know of anyone at school who was gay or bi, they were there but not out at all.

30:38 Nah, I kinda disagree. Sure, he is not earning as much as Ken but he got a pretty decent raise and now gets to run his own department. He made himself valuable for the agency and now has more room than ever to grow because of it. More money will come eventually, I think it was wise to not try to push his luck at that moment.

If you have access to a VPN, Netflix UK still has Mad Men until the end of the year I believe, if that's a better way to watch than whatever you're doing right now.

"My people are Nordic" has meme status alongside Chip n Dip. The side characters definitely get fleshed out more, one of the many things I love about Mad Men is its a real ensemble show, some of my fav characters are smaller 'side' characters. I like how different Bobby is to Rachel and Midge (artist), with Rachel it felt like we were seeing a more real / vulnerable Don, with Bobby it's this twisted power thing, borderline SM but they don't have any safeguards. Washing the car sex off your hands with dish soap before you kiss your wife is heinous work. always funny when betty/others refer to her as an old lady at the stables as if she isn't literally what, 29, 30yo at this point? its giving jane austen spinster chat
I would have bet money that Milena learned about LGBTQ+ from Tumblr, I'm shocked she actually learned it from a mandatory IRL "1 Gay versus 30 Serbian High School Students" Jubilee video ππ³οΈβπ

Love this episode, not a major one in terms of plot progression but a lot of classic early Mad Men moments.

Boomer humour is always getting made fun of in our generation for their 'I hate my wife' type of gags but I guess we never thought that it was even worse before, exemplified here by Jimmy lol.
On a side note, I hope I age as good as Bobbie.
